I have a few things I might want to do but am unsure of how possible the situation is.

First, is it possible to find in a hex editor when you push a button and get a reaction out of it? For example, small Mario jumping onto a block. Mario hits the block, but the block doesn't beak, it just sort of hops a bit. Is it possible to find these values and change the reaction? (so for example, the block
does break with small Mario?)

Second, is it possible to swap characters around without it being a palette swap? For example, I swap Mega Man out with Air Man. He functions the same as Mega Man, but Air Man attacks just like in the boss fight.

I have zero experience in this and it may be possible this idea I have could be way out of my league, but if it is possible then at least I have something to work on. Many thanks for your responses.

no experience here either but i'm fairly sure the character swap thing is doable. ever seen all the character changes done in mega man games? i think one of the more recent hacks swapped mega man out for roll in the old nes games.

Kinda depends on what system/games you are trying to "hack" and what specifically you want to do to the games. Many games on older platforms like NES for example have level editors that you can use to made simple mods to games.

If you want to get into sprite/palette and other major changes require a lot more knowledge than the average person might have.

Jordanv78 : It's for the NES. The game is Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and I could not find any level editors for that, unfortunately. From what I understand, I just have to keep changing values until I get the one I want, but even then, that would consume so much time even to the most dedicated hacker. I also have a feeling this thing is way over my head, as I'm not very good at computer programing :v

Darkpower508 : Yeah, if you aren't very good at programming, ROMhacking is going to be a pretty big task to take on.

I advise looking into a site like "romhacking.net" if you haven't already. This site has a lot of good information posted by people whom have a lot of experience.

Also, a Youtuber made a sequel of Dr. Jekyl that's pretty cool. You can learn more about it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oij5zv6bCU

Jordanv78 : Oh, wow, this goes above and beyond what I wanted to do, even putting a lot of ideas I was thinking of into this. Thanks!
