i just remembered something i've been wondering about for some time now. why does the fast forward function (space bar) for snes games seldom work correctly, if at all? a lot of time it just makes the audio sound high pitch and sped up (no other effect and when the button is released the audio sounds unchanged entirely as if the space bar hadn't been touched at all.) yet the rest of the game has little to no noticeable change at all.

just tested https://www.vizzed.com/play/sonic-the-hedgehog-gen-online-sega-genesis-3371-playable and it works fine, music and everything else sped up as it should.

and yet https://www.vizzed.com/play/dragon-view-snes-online-super-nintendo-7818-playable virtually no speed change at all with the previously mentioned messed up audio.

maybe this function needs a bit of tweaking for the snes games or something?

treos : The speed up definitely works.
I just tested it with that game too.

Maybe its cuz that game is just really slow? ^^;

Try another game and see if its noticeable.

Vanelan : that's odd as it barely works for me in just about all snes games.

nope, just tried it with a couple of other snes games and no fast forward at all, just the strange audio effect.

let's see... i already know it works with genesis games just fine so, gba...works too. the fast forward function seems to work fine with all games except for snes ones. i know said speed up function would work fine with zsnes as well so i don't know what the problem is with mednafen.

treos : Maybe it has to do with some past config changes.
Have you set space to a controller key?

Vanelan : no, my usual config (when not using my pc gamepad) is:

start: enter
select: right shift
D-pad: arrow keys
A:Z
B:X
X:A
Y
L:Q
R:W

i don't think i have anything set to space bar or rather, i don't think i've ever changed that from the default fast forward function.

You could try deleting the SNES config file for MEDNAFEN so everything is back to default and see if it works then.

Oh... it might help to tell you where that is. ^^;
Press Windows Key+R and type in C:programdatavizzedVizzedRgrPlugin
Then open your user folder (user-#), open Mednafen-new and delete the mednafen-09x.cfg

The plugin should re-create this file and you will have to reconfigure your controls.

hmmm...nope, still the same. just used mega man x for snes to test after deleting the file and i DID notice an actual increase somewhat while on the intro (highway) stage at the beginning but it seemed to be a temporary speedup as it soon dropped back to normal speed (with the messed up audio of course).

is it possible my laptop simply lacks the cpu to use mednafens fast forward function properly, at least on snes? i mean, i've been emulating gamesfor years and years so i wouldn't dismiss that ever so irritating possibility right away. (darn this crappy laptop >.> hate it, hate it SOOO much.) then again, zsnes speeds up easily with no problem at all so i'm not sure.

still, that's useful to know where that config file is saved to so thanks for that.
