To me, it really isn't a dieting choice.

I am a muslim above the age of 12, which means that it is best to be fasting. It was extremely difficult at first, and I didn't do it every day, but I did try.

It's also (apparently) been proven to have great health benefits, as well (I heard, anyway)

i fasted along with my cousin greenluigi a couple of times to see what it was like, and some other people in our family were doing it too because it was Ramadan. i think that the type of fasting Muslims take part in is fine, but going without food or water for over a full day or two is definitely not healthy. i don't know of any specific cultures that do that, though. how safe/dangerous fasting for that long can be depends on the climate, i guess, and how quickly one dehydrates
