I do believe that the majority of consoles that use the RGR plugin can be saved by pressing F2. You load by pressing F4.

And most games I've found so far have working save functions from the game itself. So if you start a Zelda character then save in game and it should load with that saved game still there.

Not all systems are the same so try testing this out before you get too far into a game just to see how each system works.
