People who want to have questions from The Force Awakens answered are going to have to wait a bit longer than expected because Disney is pushing back the movies release, and by quite a bit at that.

The move was done in order to re write parts of the script, supposedly to add more parts about Rey, The movie which was supposed to be released on May 26th 2017, will not be released instead on December 15th of that same year.

What do you think of the delay? Is a 7 month delay worth it to learn a bit more about a character? Is Disney making a smart move by releasing the movie just a week before Avatar 2 gets released?

In recent history (20 years or so), movies delaying their release usually end up being bad. Hopefully this will not be the case. After all Rey is not only (seemingly) a very important character in the story but she also is extremely popular with fans. Lucas did try (with mitigated success) to integrate Boba Fett in the prequels because of popular demand.

As for releasing the movie next to Avatar: whenever it would have been released it would have had to compete with blockbusters. May is usually a pretty lucrative month in theaters, and so is December. However, considering the larger target audience for Star Wars I think it will be more popular. Avatar had impressive special effects but gold sheet-thin scenario. And considering the decline for, er, "such market" for a scenario - movies like Tomorrow Land miserably failed at the box office - I believe it will not fare as well.

Eh, they are saying that Avatar 2 will be popular enough to take back the U.S. record and maybe even break Avatar's Worldwide record still because it still has a HUGE base. Plus May for 2017 isn't dgoing to be all that great. The new Pirates of the Carribean movie took over Episode Viii's old May spot.

No doubt that it will be popular, by I doubt that the new Avatar will break its predecessor's record unless it has a groundbreaking scenario. But considering James Cameron's ideologies, I highly doubt it.

Aw. I was really looking forward to seeing Episode VIII, but I guess this kind of stuff happens with a lot of big movies sometimes. Also, there's going to be an Avatar 2 and I haven't heard of it until now. Great. Although, I honestly don't think it will pass the original in records. I just have this weird feeling in my gut telling me it won't do as well as the original, I don't know. As long as I have a new Spider-Man movie to occupy me during 2017 then I'm fine with waiting for Star Wars.

LunarDarkness2 : You haven't heard of Avatar 2? All 3 sequels were announced just a couple days after the first Avatar was released.

I haven't, heh. Maybe because the original came out when I was still in elementary school and I didn't really understand things that much. I only payed attention to kid stuff lol.
