Other than using a cable (I have done it at home, and download speeds are night and day), the only thing I can suggest is to get closer to the Wi Fi signal. Also make sure nothing is interfering with the signal; my wireless phone sometimes messes the Wi Fi.

The best option seems to be to try and get a new router.
It should be working fine from 20 feet away.

In the meantime while you are waiting for a new router, try to make an antenna of sorts...
Take a piece of cardboard(about 1x1 foot should be good), bend it in 1/2 and make a v shape. Then cover the cardboard in foil and put it behind the router.
The setup should look like this:

C would be the computer, 1 is monitor R is router and V is the cardboard "antenna."
