Yes Jesus said he ``is putting forth a NEW [so it means we don`t have to listen to the old one] commandment that you love one and other, just as I have loved the congregation`` I can`t remember exactly witch scripture it is, I`m at school and I don`t have a bible near so I can`t tell you now. Then there`s the most importent commandment that you love your God with your whole heart, mind and strength. That's in Math. 6... I think? So we don`t have to listen the old commandment but the it doesn't mean we ingore the old testement. As for the the second 10 commandments there is an explication for it, but I have to get home first.

But you don't follow the Old Testament laws because they were in the Old Testament, you follow some of them because that is what Jesus taught.

oh, I have another point to make....

part of the reason why we need the old testament is that it is the code breaker for a lot of the new testament...

there are metaphors and the like from the old testament, that are used in the new testament, that only make sense if you understand the context from the old testament....

not that this is a big deal.... but, it is one reason why it should be kept around at least

Yes I agree, the Old testament is part of the Bible. It points to Jesus being the Son of God. You can actually sorta hear about Jesus in Genesis 3. But as far as the laws go, we aren't following them because they were in the old testament.

I agree, the law of Moses (the commandements in the first 5 books) are definately done.... but, I don't think that the principles of the commandments, and some of the commandments themselves, were done away with completely...

but, only because of the teaching of Jesus and the apostles... they taught some of the same principles that are in the old testament... like, don't murder, fornicate, steal etc.

Well yes, but that is what I am saying. We don't go around not killing people because of the Ten Commandments, we do it because it was taught by Jesus.

and if we were going by old testament law.... then we would be killing thives, adulterers and murderers.... which we don't, for the most part (except murderers in some cases)....

we also don't sacrifice lambs or anything anymore....

Yes. Some faiths do. The jews obey the sabbath like there's no tommorow for example.

I think it was assumed by Geeogree and I that this was about Christians and the Old Testament. I don't think Jewish people make sacrifices though.

Dear lord, this thread still rages on, does it? Wow. Okay, for everyone's pleasure, I will add "Undecided" as a voting topic, if you really feel you HAVE to vote "Undecided"... But really, don't you think you should think about it a little bit more, and decide to decide?

Weigh the risks to the benefits. You wouldn't have crazy psycho religious people killing people because they were different and using the old testament as an excuse. You wouldn't have arguments about all the contradictions between the old and new testaments. You wouldn't have states saying "Gays can get married" and then turning right around and revoking all the marriages (like they just did). You wouldn't have people in the streets saying "God Hates FAGS" and you wouldn't have hazings. You wouldn't have holy wars. You wouldn't have had 9-11. You wouldn't have Wars at All, I conjecture. All you really need is summed up in *two commandments* anyways. If you want history, go to a social studies class. There, you can actually read first-hand accounts of the plight of the Mesopotamians, the Hebrews, the Phonecians, the Babylonians... The Shepherds and the Agriculturalists...

And keeping the old testament provides what?
"Err... well... when jesus says 'it is written', then we know where it's written because it's written in the old testament..."...........
Don't you Already know? If "it is written" somewhere, then it's written! You don't need a reference to understand that 2000 years ago, it was written. The old testament is 5 or 6 times older than the story of Jesus, possibly more than that. It isn't needed to fully understand the New Testament, and the people who make those little orange New Testament books realize that.

Think about that before you click "Undecided".
