...I don't even know where to begin with this. It's just so silly to even think of. It's the first time I've ever decided to do this, and it's possible it could become a regular occurrence.

So, last night, as a few people probably had read, I decided to try to go to sleep earlier than usual, about 10PM my time. Not bad, right? Wrong. I couldn't fall asleep. Two hours later, and it's midnight. I think I'm finally going to fall asleep though, so I don't lose patience yet. Then, a nerve in my left foot gets pinched (this happens a bit to me, but what a horrible time), and I'm wide awake once again thanks to the pain. Okay, two hours of my life purely wasted. No big deal! I don’t even care.

…I care immensely.

You can imagine how angry I was at that moment. I want to go to sleep at a reasonable time, and I end up being brought back up due to that, and here I am thinking I have to spend yet another two hours tossing and turning before finally going to sleep at like 2:30. Given that my day started early today, that just wasn’t going to be an option.

After getting up for a second and pacing around, I plopped right back on my bed, while holding my Kirby plush close to me (honestly, I’d like to not be judged through posts on this thread for sleeping with a plush toy at 18 years old, thank you). Eventually, I pretty much did an equivalent of counting sheep, only minus visualizing much of anything. I just started to count up slowly, about once every five seconds, to try and clear my mind. I didn’t even reach fifty before…I got impatient and stopped.

So, I huffed and puffed a little more, before looking to the plush beside me and just kind of sitting there for a bit. Somehow…that worked?

I don’t know if I literally overworked myself to sleep trying to sleep or what, but that was seriously an insane night. I’m really hoping it doesn’t happen often now…

What is your usual sleeping schedule? If it is more than one hour earlier, then yes your biological clock will be ticking very loudly. It happened to me during K-11 on weekends; getting to sleep on Sundays was such a hassle. And stressing over the fact that you can not go to sleep will of course not help at al..

What I usually do is lay down in bed (with the room as dark as possible) and just stare at the ceiling. Within 10 minutes my eyes are heavy with slumber, even when I change my schedule. I guess that without stimulation your brain gets tired quickly.

janus : My sleep schedule is, admittedly, very erratic. I've never had a stable time to sleep, because I almost always end up going to sleep far later than I plan either which way.

I wish I could just sit in one position for even two minutes. I'm CONSTANTLY tossing and turning because I have little to no comfort wherever I sleep, in however fashion.

And yeah, my brain's usually lighting on all cylinders late at night. I'm a night owl for sure, but the world demands you to be an early bird. It's such a huge hassle for me, since I'm one of the worst morning people you'll meet.

This all sounds like me and naw your never to old to sleep with a plush toy lol I am a night owl... some nights I get 1 hour of sleep because all I do is toss and turn.... hopefully you can find someway to get some rest ... I know I haven't found an easy way except to just lay there with my eyes closed and rest a bit but my mind goes rapid alot so thats another problem.... I sometimes will just turn the TV on because it blocks out my thoughts most nights.

Bintsy : I've actually tried turning the TV on. It never works. Ever. Unfortunately for me.

I know you're never too old for sleeping with a plush toy, but I'm pretty sure 90 percent of the world disagrees, especially when it comes to men.

I really need to find an easier way to sleep, though. Like, I'm almost thinking hypnotherapy or something...

Well maybe you can find something that can help. Sorry I can't be much help with more ideas.

Who cares what the world thinks and if somebody cares enough about you concerning a guy then he will love you for you whether you sleep with a plush toy or not

I hate when that happens. Some days for no apparent reason it takes me 2 or 3 hours to go to sleep after getting in bed. The worst part is that I constantly feel sleepy, but can't get to sleep. Luckily, this only happens once in a while.

Bintsy : Yeah, I just wanted to make a point to not make this some sort of flame war over me sleeping with a plush toy, because that's not the focus of this thread, obviously.

RDay13 : I wish it only happened once in a while, you lucky scamp... ._."

This was an extreme, but this does happen plenty of nights, as unfortunate as it is. It's almost impossible for me to go to sleep before midnight unless I've legitimately exhausted myself throughout the day.

Hahahahaha.  I am not lucky though. It usually takes me around 30 minutes to sleep every day. The people that are lucky are those who go to sleep within 5 minutes almost every day. They are truly lucky.

RDay13 : Oh, those people are insane. Good for them, but damn.

I really wish I could even sleep on average thirty minutes after going to bed, unless it's already something super late like 2AM or something like that.

SWTerra : I am quite the opposite (early sleeper and bird). Nevertheless I have been a night worker too so I can kind of relate. Is there not a night job in your field you could get? I know living "opposite" of everyone can be hard, but as my mom told me it is better than evening shifts. At least you get to see your family more often.

As for the plush toy: whatever works for you! Most of us have use them in our childhood, so why not keep it during adulthood if it works?

janus : Well, at the moment, I'm still in classes. College, yes, but most classes run earlier rather than later. Tomorrow, on the other hand, my first class isn't until 3:30 in the afternoon.
