Home school, public, or private?

HS or PS? This poll is for if you would rather go to Public Schooled or be Home schooled, not which one you did. (I won't be voting in this post, by the way)

I, personally, was HS most of my life, well, I'm still in high school, so I still am being home schooled. I went to kindergarten school for around 9 months but my mom pulled me out for some reason. I enjoy being home schooled though. I get to make my own schedule, which allows me to plan my day (pfftt, what planning? I'm a wild cannon bruh, I do what I want, don't get in my way.)

Edit: IMPORTANT. I can't seem to edit the choices themselves so I can't add Private school. This also means I can't edit the briefing. In the briefing I said to only post if you're in school. I changed my mind, if you are out of school then feel free to post which type of schooling you did, if you're in school now, post which one you are currently doing. If you were/are private school, then just reply saying so, as I can't add the option in. That's all, continue.

Neither of them. I attend a private school, and private schools are better than public schools in Lebanon, unfortunately. I never was home schooled before.

I pretty much am home schooled I stopped going to school when I went to collage and I was 18 years at the time. I am now at home trying to configure my life and how to get some things I want going like businesses of the sort. Its not easy doing home school but its the best way to learn things on your own to understand. And if you want help you can ask for help and if you don't want help you don't have to ask. It builds more character if you do it on your own. But still keep the necessary needs of asking for help when the right time is needed.

I attended a public school and tried my luck in two public universities, but right now I'm studying online, so one could say I'm being home schooled now.

While I liked attending my public school, making friends and such, now that I'm on university I prefer studying at home, not only because of my disease, but also because it leaves room for extra activities without having to worry about classes or exams. Plus, it's a lot easier this way, since we have all the information since day one I can safely plan a schedule without rushes or hurries.

solidx123456 :

So glad you decided to allow us post-grads to join in!  I attended both Private and Public School.

Public school was a crap hole (lack of better word). On top of having the worst education in the USA, I also had to deal with knife fights, gun fights, hazing and fist fights everyday.  There was a time that I had been sliced pretty badly and there was no teachers around in the intermediate area, so my small group of friends had to carry me to the front office and get a cafeteria lady to call 911. Although, one public school got me out of my abusive home, so nothing's too bad. In short, I hate public school, but I know some aren't that bad. Maybe if they actually pass that federal unification of public education it'll be better.

Private School was nearly as bad. We had a very strict military type president (= to a principle). You could be punished for anything and I mean anything! Pants zipper left down? You miss lunch and clean.  1 second late? You miss lunch and clean. Teacher hates you? You miss lunch and clean while grading his/her papers. You openly challenge any adult's belief? (example: You are Wiccan and the teacher is Christian and you try to correct her politely by explaining your religion) You might as well be living in the janitor's closet. You couldn't do anything because the Private school is not part of the school system. As far the education, some classes were awesome -- you really learned more than you'd ever need! Others were way below even the worst school -- you could swear the teacher had never gotten through school and dropped out in 3rd grade and was only teaching there because he/she was related to someone up in the ranks.

I never was home-schooled, but I did home school my sister. She was 3 grades behind and went through a lot of hazings when I finally got the ability to yank her out of there. I taught her self defense along with all the basics plus some basic life skills. If she struggled I would spend extra time on it. Her dad finally got custody of her so she went back to Public school. She jumped 2 grades higher than she was suppose to be and can manhandle anyone who tries to mess with her. She says she misses being home schooled and rather be back in it but she makes the best of her PS experience.

So I'm 100% for HS and not for the other 2.

WandererExiled : Rough school.

I was public schooled and I got a great education, went off to a public college and I'm succeeding in life.  I made a ton of friends at school, played sports, got exposed to a variety of cultures and learned that people are generally good no matter which god they pray to or what they wear or what language they speak.

Public school is a nice opportunity to get thrown int he mix and learn about other people.  No one gets that exposure being privately schooled or especially home schooled.  I could tell who was home-schooled in college because they had no idea how to work with others, most of the time, and they struggled with the massive number of people moving around all at once.

I went to a school in the rougher part of town but we never had gun fights or knife fights.  And fist-fights happen everywhere.

Yea my school zone was rated 4th worst in the nation. In public college, I enjoyed making a lot of friends and the vast majority of people from different nations.

I just attended a small private school. Although I wasn't around many other kids my age, it did give the teachers more time to focus on each individual student, and I think that helped me in the long run.

I've attended different public schools up to grade 9. Currently I'm in grade 10 and going to a private school though thinking of switching to another school because I want to attend a different program.

From what I know home schooling here is pretty uncommon originally in part because of the specific requirements needed to be eligible for university and stuff here which is kind of hard to fullfill at home, it's not really near as common of an option as it seems to be in the US and there's basically a law that was implemented that requires you to fullfill specific requirements (basically not being able to attend a public/private school for some reason) in order to be allowed to be home schooled nowadays.

While there was a time I probably would've preferred being home school for various reasons (in part because there was a time when I was bullied and nowadays that would probably fit better with my slightly nocturnal life style <,< >.>) I have to say that right now I prefer attending a public/private school. I think that while home schooling allows for more freedom in how you go about your learning to the potential of the student in some aspects at least, there are just some things you can learn in a public/private school that you can't at home, meeting various people, the resources they usually have access to among other things, that I think make it the better option in most cases.

I can't really compare public vs private too much, since the public schools I've went to grade 6-9 at least have all been below average in terms of public schools in the country while the private school I'm currently attending (which is specifically for grade 10-12) is the 2nd best private school for that range in my city (going by results anyway) If I do end up making that switch to a public school next year (since I want to attend the IB diploma program) I might be able to though. I will say that typically public schools allow you to meet people of a slightly more diverse background than most private schools while some private schools are typically superior compared to the average public school in terms of results and sometimes resources they have access to and are really only matched by the top ones. Though there's also talk about grade inflation in a lot of private schools which from what I've seen seem to be true to some degree, so that likely explains some of it.

I'm 19 years of age, and I was home schooled. As of yet, I don't spell well, my hand writing is poor, my math skills are limited, I don't know much history and I have suffered socially. And every bit of it is my own fault. The results of home schooling vary greatly because of the variances in a parents intellect. And even though my parents are far from brilliant, I still wholly support home schooling. I have not only everything I could ever possibly need to get any amount of any field of education at my finger tips, but the mental capability to do so as a result of having the Internet and the freedom to naturally develop as a person. Now, I don't want anything I'm saying misunderstood, I'm not saying that someone is any less of a person because they went to public school, but too often do I find groups of people who are all exactly the same. Not like I was weird and they were normal (although that is somewhat true,) but almost as if they don't even have their own thoughts. I'm not sure how it is anywhere else as I never travel, but the people here go in as people, and come out as android-like pseudo-people, totally stripped of any personality or individuality, not unlike a newly manufactured laptop preloaded with a specific operating system. It's honestly one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen.... If home schooling has done anything, at least for me in my specific situation, it's allowed me to develop as a human being, and not just another factory working social security number that exists solely to pay taxes.

I don't think I've ever even been to a private school, nor have I ever been home schooled. My wife was home schooled when she was growing up, however. I've always wondered what its like being home schooled, and I'll never get the chance to find out. But then again, I get to reminisce with my high school buddies about how it was "back in the day."

Even though I wanted to see what home school was like, I will never have any regrets about going to my public schools. Good times...

I prefer being homeschooled. I like being homeschooled too. Most public schools here are very dangerous for me to go into anyway. I mean, on one hand, I have a much better education than most people in my city. But on the downside...I don't know what that bit is.

A little bit of all 3. Until I graduated high school I was almost all public schooled except for about 3 years near the beginning when i was hone schooled. When I started college I went to a private school for a year and then I went back to public school. Here, public is by far 10 times better than private schools.

I went to public school through my 8th grade year and I was homeschooled the rest of the way. I got my GED in 2014 I believe.

I was in public school my whole life in Puerto Rico for 12 years and five years here in Florida. As crazy as it sounds, education in Puerto Rico's public school system in my opinion was higher than the education I received here. I was getting scholarships from fourth grade already and we had a really though Puerto Rican exams as they are called every year and that was very rough to prepare for and extremely long. Here in Florida they have the FCAT which it is harder just because of the format and the way the questions are phrased but concept wise is somewhat easier- I passed them way above average my first time taking it only a year of being here and having learned the language. So, I did experience two completely different "types"of public schooling and if I could afforded it I would HOME school my children. The amount of racism, fights, and bullying I went through was just horrible. Not knowing the language and not being able to fight a group of 4-5 girls that hated me just because I was a person was really upsetting. I remember how they would block the door to the school bus and the driver who was Hispanic was told to not let us in by the aunt of the girls who was at the time the bus assistant- they just basically kept picking on us for being Hispanics. I would not want my children to go through that I want them to focus and learn all they can to have great scholarship opportunities and struggle less in life. At the same time, I feel that I will be limiting their social activities and maybe not allowing them to toughen up by dealing with society. I am not aware of how private schools work at all- maybe they are a better option?

I was never home schooled, but I have been to both private and public schools.
I honestly have to say I prefer public schools over private simply because the public schools in the area I lived offered a lot more than the private school.

As long as people have the freedom to choose, I do not really care.

The problem stems from teachers' unions who care only about THEIR interests. They lobby governments to stop the expansion of charter schools which, most of the time, perform AT LEAST as well as public schools despite receiving no funding for capital expenditures. They, along with the ACLU, also oppose school vouchers (or education savings accounts like in Nevada or Arizona) that would let parents decide whichever school they decide.
