Wow, I forgot how well I used to write back in the day. It doesn't take a genius if you read this to deduce two things, so I might as well just say them outright.
- Yes, while I tend to side cautiously as a theist, I do relate most with Christianity. It helps that I spent seven years in a Jesuit school.
- This was in direct response to the death of our class friend. Notice how general I was within this piece of writing about how he died before you ask me what happened.
With that out of the way, here's my little excerpt of sorts that I ended up reading alongside all of the members of our high school class, as well as the family of the one afflicted.
A Prayer to our Dearest Friend
Johnathon, this prayer is for you. This is the voice of the Class of 2015. It is a voice of your friends, speaking in unison. It is a way to ensure that we never forget your name and legacy. Your death, however saddening it may be, gives a spark of life to your class and your classmates. We know that, wherever you are now, you are listening to us. We trust in your return to God, and your resurrection into your new life.
Yes, this prayer is for you. It is from not one person, but a whole class dedicated to always remember your name and the person taking up that name in our hearts. You were always such a great friend to all of us, and we don't like to see you go. But we also trust that God always has everything planned. Even if we do not understand why this happened now, we will stand strong and trust that everything will go as the Lord planned.
We are Christians, and our voice will be heard! We are Christians, our voice will not die! We are Christians, waiting to be reunited with you again! We are Christians, believing in your eternal life. We stand strong, praying for your return to the Lord. We are Christians, and no matter what, we know our prayer will reach you Johnathon.
You will always, always, always keep a place in our hearts, and we, the Class of 2015, will ensure that your legacy as a friend, a classmate, and a teammate will never fade away.
