So, Naturally I've been having myself a very wonderful time playing games at my favorite website. Earlier this morning I was enjoying a game called "Alundra 2" on the PSX emulator (which happens to be an emulator I use quite frequently) I woke up nothing short of a few hours later and to my discontent/Utter horror, the option to play at all has been eliminated from my privileges without a just cause. I would like to know how I can get that back. -Thank you

If I recall correctly, the PSX games were free last month, but as of November 1st you need the PSX item to play again. If you had access to them before last month, then that obviously wouldn't be the problem. Otherwise you'll need to buy the item (with Viz) to continue playing on it.

Eirinn : Wait...so we have to post madly like slaves to be able to play or throw 50 dollars at them to play without worry? Last I checked that isn't free, and there are ads all over the site, why can't they make them actually free? It just doesn't make any freaking sense. And I checked the shop, to play ALL games without worry and create net plays could cost 165 bucks. Maybe less. That's a lot of freaking money. Even more time that many people may not have if they don't have that money It just seems very harsh to do when there must be alternatives to it.

Because unless you want to pay 2k plus a month to keep this site running, I doubt you;d make this site legit free! Honestly, with a bit of posting in a week I went from 30 thousand to 50 thousand viz, it's no challenge. And if it proves your mettle on this site, bully for you, you're showing you love our vizzland! AND WHATS WRONG WITH THAT? To paraphrase my point, post many posts, or donate, it's not a big deal!

EDIT: Derp. I failed to realize the second post wasn't by the thread maker. -__-

It IS a hefty price tag, but it's there because of bandwidth costs. The PSX game file sizes are pretty massive compared to most other systems on here. For example, it's nothing for an NES game to be fifty KB but a PSX game is often hundreds of MB.

So in plain terms, David has to pay for all data sent and received, so PSX games cost him (roughly) between 4,000 and 6,000 times more than the average 8 bit game, and with this site being ad and donation supported, an increase like that would cause it to tank. It's an unfortunate thing, but it's the only way to keep server fees from spiking insanely high.

And honestly I think He would much rather people did play for free and used Viz earned from posting rather than just donations. I'm sure he appreciates those who do buy them with donations (who wouldn't? lol), but site activity is more valuable than just a few donations in the long run.

Making that much Viz seems like a daunting task, but steady posting will get you there in no time. A few posts a day every day for a month and you'll probably have more than enough. Plus you'll make friends and have fun doing it.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope you can understand. The setup certainly isn't intended to be a scam, just a way for the owner to help feed his family while giving us all some enjoyment.

Don't the N64 games take up a bit of bandwidth too? Admittedly not as much as a multi disk PSX game but a single disc one maybe. Oh well.

CeilYurei : You have lots more options to make Viz.
You can submit screenshots, videos, rate games, videos, screenshots, post, rate posts, donate, ask nicely in the vizzed market generosity thread (we have lots of generous members).

And that's just a few things you can do.

AppleJohnny : The issue here is that the PS1 Item is required because not only the added storage costs of hosting these games but the bandwidth usage as well. Since so many people use Adblockers on the web anymore the site doesn't generate the type of revenue to just let everyone download PS1 games all the time

I know this seems frustrating, but honestly it's not that hard to gain Viz on this site for free. You can gather up a couple thousand in a couple of mins just by rating games, videos, and screenshots and reviews. Which requires no posting.

You can also donate to the site and get Viz and recognition as well as help fund new features to the RGR - which are added constantly I might add -

You can also post your own gameplay videos, screenshots and reviews to get a ton of Viz as well.

David has made almost all the other games fairly free Viz wise, except for the largest of files. So I think overall it's a pretty sweet deal.

Sorry for the confusion. David made the PS1 games on the site free for a few weeks to make up for the fact that the site had some downtime earlier in the month due to a couple servers being migrated to a new host.

Thank to  the ones that gave me the information that I was seeking. As to the people saying "that's not free" and borderline flaming, it does take a form of currency to run a site as efficiently as this community here, with that being said time is a currency as well and I completely understand the point of view of the rgr staff and creators. I'll be doing all I can to obtain the PSX item just like everyone else. The rules have been very clearly stated. I'm sorry about the misinterpretation and I look forward to playing more games once I have earned the right to do so. Keep cool and game on!

CeilYurei : I can't speak for the average N64 game, but I just checked a fairly detailed game (Winback) and it's about 11MB, so... roughly 300 times smaller than say, Dino Crisis 2 which was actually a single disc game. I avoided multidisc games in my estimates because they're so much larger and the comparison would have been unfair, especially since most PSX games weren't multidiscs.

The file size is so vastly different because of the limitations of a cartridge, which is also why the PSX had over a thousand games made for it, but the N64 only had about three hundred. Despite it being newer than the PSX, it didn't have nearly the ability of the PSX memory wise because it was tied to outdated formatting (cartridges). So the average single disc PSX game just couldn't be stored within the confines of a cartridge.

Man I'm long winded. Sorry about that.

AppleJohnny : Apologies for summoning you to your own thread, but I wanted to make sure you knew this reply (from here on out) was to you: I'm glad you understand and plan to get the item as well. You'll be there in no time, man.
