I was doing my normal exploring when I found a cool article about how a some sort of an optical illusion caused people in some cities in china saw a mirrage of a city in the sky.

At least that's what everyone is being told, because there are those who think it's some sort of alternate reality leaking into our world.

Ooh, conspiracy theories! This is something I like talking about, although I tend to have little to nothing to contribute to such matters.

So, instead, I'm going to try to answer some of the notes in the article I found most interesting.

Fata Morgana: Look, I'd love for some physics-shattering thing to happen as much as the next guy, but I'm going to be quite frank here. I usually collapse onto the most logical of explanations with strange phenomena such as this, and this is no exception. This is, quite frankly, the theory I believe to be true. Those arguing against it through claims of how rare such a thing is only solidifies it as a proper explanation further. If this happened often, then why are we freaking out over it now? I'm not too knowledgeable on the Fata Morgana outside what the article has explained, however, so I don't deny that I might be missing something here.

Chinese Government Conspiracy?: While I don't completely deny this as a possibility from a technological standpoint, I fail to see the merit in testing citizens in such a way, unless "prediction" or "foresight" of such an event has been stated by the government, but for what reason would they do that? My non-creative mind can't think of any such reason, unless they're more theocratic than I'm aware of.

A Parallel Universe: As much as I can sit here and claim to break this conspiracy through logic, the truth is, I can't. I can't really refute this as a possibility, mostly because I have no precedent on hand to help me back up any rebuttals I might make against this. But honestly, I don't want to refute it through circumstantial evidence, mostly because, of all the theories, this is probably the one I most want to be the case. And yes, I know, I'm probably not taking into consideration the potentially negative aspects that such an occurrence could bring, especially the idea of such an occurrence becoming more permanent, but darn it, it intrigues me. Let me have my fun!

I could probably go on for days talking in more detail, but I'm pretty sure this post has already accrued a tl;dr status, so I'll shut my trap. Conclusion? This is some fun conspiracy material!

I don't understand what all the craze is about. People talking about parallel universes, strange experiments, rare phenomena... In my opinion, is way simpler than that.

We are in China, ladies and gentlemen. This country is heavily polluted. What I see is simply a dense cloud of pollution covering the lower half of the city's skyscrapers. This gives the impression that the buildings are floating, and thanks to the media impact, it has become viral.

Fata Morgana? Could be. Actually, is the only explanation I would accept besides the one I've offered above, simply because it is based on something real (is it?) rather than paranoid theories.

Conspiracy from the Government? Wait a minute: China is known for having built enormous amounts of buildings in abandoned places, so why couldn't the build something like this? Snap out of it people, there's no such technology to build a single floating building, even less to build that many. Plus, what could the Chinese Government gain with this?

Parallel Universe? Now we are going really paranoid. There's no proof they exist, but there's no proof they don't exist either. Still, let's take inspiration from Men in Black and Matrix: In these movies we get an explanation for strange things happening, but the things being explained are really vague. A mystical light in the night sky, a dejà vu... Not a freaking city. If the parallel universes exist, we could only get a glimpse of them, not this. Wanna get even more conspirator and say they came here as the vanguard of an invasion? Please tell them they shouldn't start in China and send them to Spain ASAP, we're not even going to resist, you have my word.

Summarizing, just a random image that has a very logical explanation that no one wants to believe because then it doesn't go viral through the net. Unless I see further evidence, this seems a city so polluted that it covers the lower half of its skyline.

EX Palen : "what could the Chinese government gain with this?" OMG you're a genius, why didn't America think of this before? All they are doing is solving overpopulation by moving half of their citizens to the sky.

zanderlex : Dude, be realistic: who the hell would be able to afford living there? Do you really think they could solve overpopulation by letting the rich people live above the rest?

Think for once that, if that city was real, poor families wouldn't be able to live there, and those families represent a very high percentage of the population. And don't be that naive to think they would give out for free such buildings to the people, the real world isn't that benevolent, even less with the imminent crisis that China will be going through, particularly thanks to the construction world.

This being said, I'll ask again: what could the Chinese government gain with this? And don't say they could earn a ton of money from rich people willing to pay several zeros because we all know that wouldn't happen.
