started up the game (using the MESS emulator) and it gives the following error (note: it's an in-game error message):

"- format error-

Internal backup RAM (backup RAM cartridge) is unusable.
Back to control screen by pressing reset button.
Initialized by option command."

resetting the game does nothing to help.

Which version of the plugin do you have installed? I wonder if this is related to the problem with TGCD and PC-FX games where having an in-game save file stored in the data folder causes the game to crash.
