I have been able to start net play sessions with psx games but the result is always a black screen with, choppy audio playing in the background. Do we still need the psx item? Or is my laptop hardware just not good enough to run these games? My hardware in my laptop isn't that great so it wouldn't be a surprise, so far I have tried only 1 game, but I'd like to keep my Viz to buy the item if that is the case instead of creating multiple netplay sessions. Thanks for the help.

Yes, you still need the item to play PSX games and create netplay sessions.

However, it should be noted that you need the item to CREATE a session and not to JOIN a session. This means that if anybody puts up a netplay session for a PSX game, even if you don't have the item you can join them.

On a side note, it could be possible that your laptop cannot run those games. PSX is one of the systems which puts more strain in your hardware. Still, I encourage you to buy the item and test if it works on single player. If it doesn't, you can always sell the item and recover a good chunk of your lost Viz.
