Graphics: 9/10
Pros: The character models look great and are well animated, there are a variety of costumes to select from each character, during the game they have unique animations depending on how well you score from a Birdie to a Double-Bogey. There's a lot of stages to unlock, and even some mini stages, the holes will change a lot. Keeping variety in game play, and look to the stages in-tact which is a good plus. There's also some colorful text that appears when you hit a nice shot and various golf-ball animations that variety again depending on the character, which adds some flair to the game's charm. The graphics in this game is very much comparable to that of Mario Tennis which was released a year later.
There's only one con I don't like, is that some stages are designed very bland. But since this game is a Golf Type Genre, I'm going to let that slide.
Sound: 10/10 The overall voice samples sound great, and there's a lot of variety. One of my favorite things to do with the sound was always taunt people during their shots, "Hurry up already eh?" "Mama mea". The announcer voice is also nice and clear, but I don't really feel as If commentary during our shots was needed.
The Music blends in perfectly with each stage, and depending on the modes you select-the music will change for each track. The Toad Highlands track has pretty good and relaxing music, same thing goes for the Koopa Park. This music was good for the time and for the type of game. Interestingly the music is also remixed from the Mario Golf on the Game Boy Color.
Addictiveness:10/10 I'll admit, it took me a while to really enjoy the game. But after getting some practice in, unlocking every character, getting birdies, and those almighty lucky hole in ones. Pure Joy, I came easily addicted to this game, I enjoyed winning, the taunting, and just completely destroying the AI in some competition.
Story: N/A No story is really present, this is just another off topic type of Mario game, residing from the usual goomba jumping day job.
Depth: 10/10 The game really offers a lot to offer. It doesn't take a while to beat, however everything in this game is all about Progression and Knowledge which made it truly enjoyable for me. This game can be played up with 4 Players and those Players can be set
to Computer Players. You also got your Trophy Modes, which you rely on
yourself and getting up in the ranks. You have short put holes just for a little mini-game bonus, and plenty of Characters to unlock. TIP: If you have a Transfer Pak and import your Mario Golf Game Boy Color Data, you can have access up to 4 of your Game Boy Color golfers. Now that overall is just a package of awesomeness for just your average golfing game.
Difficulty: 5/10. This game will be hard for the average new player, you gotta learn the timing of the shots, what angles to work with and your distance. If you luck out, you can score really big against your foes( I did this once with Luigi, got a Hole In One at Hole 6) Once you know your stuff and remember the patterns, you can curb stomp through the computer. So I would highly recommend getting some buddies to play this every now and then.
Overall: Mario Golf Chips in a overall 9.9 out of 10. Highly recommend checking it out.
