I own a pretty old (10-15 years), 15" LCD monitor for my desktop computer, and it does this thing where the monitor makes a popping/crackling sound a short while after being turned off.

I know this is due to the temperature expanding the plastic casing of the monitor, and when it is turned off it cools again, creating a crackling sound randomly for the next 30-60 minutes. This is annoying when I'm trying to sleep but I can live with it.

I understand my monitor is still functioning perfectly and that this is not a sign of a defect. I am just wondering:

a) Is there a way to reduce this and stop/reduce the noise produced? (apart from turning it off one hour before I go to sleep)

b) If more recent monitors have this same problem?
