Ok, so this girl and I have been flirting for a while now, and we kind of started dating about a month ago. So them I'm in a Skype call with her and one of her friends is there, and they started talking about the friend breaking with HER boyfriend. So one of them says something and my girlfriend says "And that's why I'm not dating.." And I'm just sitting there like wtf? I don't say anything because we haven't really told anyone and I don't want to make the thing uncomfortable, but then when I had to leave the call we're like texting for a minute and she basically says 'I love you' So I am extremely confused. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Perhaps she doesn't want people to know yall are 'dating'?.. That could be for many reasons and you'd near kill yourself trying to think of them all. Then again, she might not see your relationship as boyfriend/girlfriend. Have you ever explicitly called each other that?

Chindogu : We've never specifically called each other that, but it's like... It's hard to explain like we say I love you to each other a lot, which I don't know of another pair of people that just says 'I love you' and they're not in some kind of relationship, and it's just like, it's kind of like pet talk, if that's even the word for it... Sort of like flirting but different, a little more serious..? Does that make sense or am I off my rocker? And it's not like it was part of the conversation that she needed to hide something, she almost went out of her way to say it.

Your still young don't beat yourself up over it. Girls are a different breed from us guys they are hard to understand. Just because you say I love you to a person doesn't make you dating and she could see it that way. Its not a bad thing considering your age just continue as you are and she might see it as dating and tell her friends

It's not that uncommon. I can see there being 3 reasons for why she said that.

1. She isn't comfortable with "officially" dating. Maybe she likes to flirt and hang out with you, but doesn't want to be considered as dating anyone yet. Maybe it has something to do with her age too.

2. She doesn't think you are officially dating because you may not have made it clear. She may want you to make a specific step, like saying "I'd like to call you my girlfriend". Sometimes, girls (and guys) will over think things, and by you NOT saying that you are officially dating, she may think that you are not. Also, the fact that she said this in front of you makes me think this is the most likely scenario, as it seems she was trying to get you to think about it and do something about it.

3. She is just toying with you and likes the attention, but not the relationship. Unfortunately, this does happen a lot.

I think number 2 is the most likely, but number 1 and 3 are possible too. I would make sure you are clear with her if you want to date her, and then you at least know she knows.

Light Knight : I agree with you 100% on that... And I've been meaning to do it for a while, but I'm really, REALLY shy about this kind of stuff, and I don't want to create an awkward situation... Any ideas on how to approach asking her?

I say just go up and tell her that you want to be offical. Most girls

like it when a guy is honest with them (espeically me) whether that be..

hey I don't like you like that or man your totally hot I want to get to

know you or I want to make us official... depending on the circumstance. In your circumstance you would go up to her and tell her

that you want to be offical boyfriend/girlfriend. If it goes good then

she will accept it but if it goes bad at least you got it off your shoulders and you don't have to continue worrying about it. Hope my

advice has some type of effect.

I think now only you can really figure out how to tell her. I mean, if you like each other lots, you likely spend a lot of time together. Wait for a nice moment where she's really enjoying being with you (like if you guys are holding hands, or whatever you are going at this point in your relationship) and just say "You know, I like you, and I want you to be my girlfriend", or something like that. I mean if you want to have a good relationship with her, you have to be able to communicate well.

Sometimes things like this can get weird when you are younger and first getting into the dating scene. Sometimes people don't want others to know that they are exclusive with a person for one reason or another.

I just would find a quiet time alone and express your thoughts and concerns with her. Only then will you know her true feelings towards the situation. Better to get it straight now then to have feelings hurt later on down the road.
