After watching the Scott Pilgrim movie, I decided to look up some of the actors from the movie and soon enough I was going through the histories of some of them and reading up on their other movies and I found something out that's pretty cool. Most drafts for movies that get discarded end up being the plots of other movies.

Of course, its possible, if somebody gets rejected with their proposal they end up taking it to another place, but that would mainly be for a start up movie, not for one that already has a series going.

One interesting thing I found is that its actually possible for movie plots from a long running series to become the plot for another long running series. For instance, did you know that the script for Die Hard With a Vengeance was actually the original script for Lethal Weapon 4?

I find this a bit strange because if a script is good enough to be in another series it should have been good enough to be uses the original way and who knows the original script could have made it? What are your thoughts?

I think it's similar to songs. A song will be rejected by sometimes dozens of artists, and then accepted by one who makes it huge. I think sometimes directors/producers might not see the same good in a script that another might. Or perhaps it doesn't have the right "feel" for that particular movie. Or maybe they had a few to consider, and that one wasn't quite as good as another contender.

The writer won't just through it away, he/she may tweak it or not, and then try it somewhere else.

Light Knight : That's true, but in cases like what happened with Die Hard, the script was already set to be for Lethal Weapon 4 before something happened.
