On September 18, 2006, Chunsoft and Nintendo released two new spinoff games in North America, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for the DS and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team for the GBA. Up until now, all the reviews that have been made for these games on Vizzed have been for Red Rescue Team. At this very moment, that all changes, as I make vizzed's first review for PMD Blue Rescue Team!

Graphics: 7/10 This is the only category where PMD: Blue Rescue Team falters. The graphics are very similar to it's GBA counterpart. However, there is a good variety of mystery dungeons to explore. You go through thick forests, gigantic mountains, the sea, and even dungeons in the sky. Also the pokemon sprites look the way you'd expect them too, which is more important than anything else. When you compare the graphics for this game to other DS games, including other Pokemon titles, the graphics are underwhelming. Overall though, there are far worse looking DS games out there. I'm giving the graphics a 7 out of 10.

Sound: 9/10 This is the category where Blue Rescue Team shines the brightest over it's GBA counterpart. Just listening to the music in Blue Rescue Team will show you just how much more the DS is capable of sound wise than the GBA. Sky Tower and Mt. Blaze are perfect examples of how fantastic the soundtrack in this game truly is. Overall, this soundtrack is almost as good as the ones in the mainstream DS games. I would say however that there are some DS games that I believe have better soundtracks, such as Golden Sun Dark Dawn and PMD Time, Darkness, and Sky. I say that the music in this game is good enough for me to give the sound a 9 however.

Addictiveness: 10/10
Out of all the Pokemon Spinoff games I've played, the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games definitely have the most addicting gameplay, and Blue Rescue Team is no exception. You navigate your way though dungeons known as mystery dungeons, which are dungeons that change each time you enter them. There are various Pokemon who stand in your way, and there's plenty of items for you to collect, such as berries, orbs and seeds which can have various effects, and even an occasional TM. Along with these items, there's another type of item that adds to the challenge of this game, and that's the apples. I'll talk more about those later. There's lots of strategy involved in navigating these mystery dungeons, which makes this game that much more addicting. Overall, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team has some of the most addicting gameplay in any Pokemon game. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness a 10!

Story: 9/10 Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team has one of the most incredible storylines I've ever seen in a pokemon game. The story begins where you, a human, have been transformed into a pokemon and you suffer from amnesia. A pokemon who eventually becomes your partner, finds you unconscious. He/she wakes you up and you talk for a bit. Soon, a Butterfree comes to the both of you and begs for you to find her child in Tiny Woods, the first dungeon of the game. You find the Caterpie, and you're rewarded. It's then that you learn of pokemon acting very strangely due to natural disasters happening throughout the world, and he asks you if you want to form a rescue team to help pokemon in need. You say yes, and your journey has officially begun! Along the way, you'll meet other rescue teams. Some are helpful, while others will stand in your way. Together with your partner, you must help pokemon in need, complete missions, and eventually, try to figure out why you became a pokemon in the first place. Overall, this is one of the best storylines you'll ever see in a pokemon game. Overall, I say the story is worthy of a 9.

Depth: 10/10
PMD: Blue Rescue Team has an excellent amount of content. There are over 40 dungeons to explore. the dungeons vary in size between 4 floors and 99 floors. The larger dungeons can take a very long time to complete. During the main story, you'll go through less than half of the dungeons in the game, the other dungeons are post game dungeons. For this reason, this game has some of the most post game content you'll ever see in a Pokemon game. Because of all the dungeons there are to explore, I'm giving the depth a 10!

Difficulty: 8/10 I've always felt that the mainstream Pokemon games don't provide a huge challenge, aside from a few battles and the Battle Frontier in Pokemon Emerald. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team showed me that Pokemon games really can be challenging. There's more to the Mystery Dungeon series than learning Pokemon types and their strengths and weaknesses. Learning how to properly navigate through a dungeon is key. You must make sure that you have the right kinds of items with you, such as apples, which are essential to make sure that you don't get hungry. If you get too hungry, your HP will start to drop. There are various types of seeds that have special effects when you eat them, and orbs can have different effects on the dungeon, yourself or enemies. Making sure that you have enough of these items is necessary if you want to make it through some of the harder dungeons. Since this game requires you to use more strategy than the mainstream games, I'm giving the difficulty an 8.

Overall Score: 9/10 Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team is one of the finest spinoff games I've ever played. With an incredible soundtrack, a massive amount of content, an incredible storyline, and dungeons that can provide a big challenge, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team is a game that any fan of dungeon crawlers should give a try. Even though the graphics could've been better, I say that this game deserves a score of 9. I hope you enjoyed this review.

For the first time, I'm going to be making some summons. If you wish to not be summoned anymore, just let me know.

NintendoTails : I knew you'd want to be summoned.
Eirinn : I know you've enjoyed some of my previous work, so I thought I should summon you.

If anyone else wants to be summoned to my future reviews, feel free to let me know.

Wow, that game sure sounds awesome, but since Red Rescue Team is available on vizzed, I'm going to play that instead. I'm glad I read this review though. It gives me a good reason to try the series out.

NintendoTails : That's a good idea, since it's free on here anyway!

18mlivingston : Thanks! I'm kinda surprised nobody else bothered to make a review for this one until now. Btw, are you looking forward to Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon?

Excellent structure, lots of details, ample comparisons with other Pokémon games... what's not to like? But just a suggestion: abbreviate the game's name (either with initials of 2 words). It makes the reading easier.
