Whenever a Canadian/Quebecer has some success in any sports the local media get besides themselves to cover them. It was the case for Elvis Stojko, Jamie Salé/David Pelletier and Isabelle Brasseur/Lloyd Iceler (figure skating), Gaétan Boucher and Catriona Lemay-Doan (speed skating), Donovan Bailey and Bruni Surin (100 meters dash), and it's not the case for Eugenie (Genie) Bouchard in tennis.

Her start was quite impressive. Barely aged 20 (last year), she ranked 5 on the ATP ranking even though she never won any Grand Slam tournaments (by did reach quarter, semi or finals for a few of them). But now she seems to be on a downward slope, barely qualifying for preliminary rounds in major tournaments. She has been hurt, that is true, but now it just seems that her modeling takes more place than her playing.

To people more into tennis: Is Bouchard's present playing just an "unlucky" streak and she can still become the next Stefi Graff or is she more like Anna Kournikova and will eventually leave tennis to do modeling?

It's still too early to say that. Genie is currently in a bad streak, but she's not the first player to go through this. She has enough talent to be up there, even though she still has to demonstrate a bit of regularity.

She won't be the next Stefi Graff, that's for sure, but she can be a future Grand Slam winner. It all depends on her motivation to continue, and seeing how Canada is producing a good generation of tennis players, both male and female, she shouldn't leave now.

After Wimbledon is over, she will fall down to the 24th position of the ranking, more or less. A big downfall, true, but she can rise again. As I said before, it all depends on her. I really hope she continues, we need new players out there rivalling the veterans, and Canada needs her to continue so more girls will follow her steps.

EX Palen : Do you think this fall might actually help her get her things straight and shine once more? Maybe she needed a dose of humility...

Well, all players have a tournament where they shine. They suddenly raise in the ranks, beating anyone in their way, but in the end it is demonstrated that they lack the needed regularity to become a true top.

Genie is too young yet. The past generation is still playing at a great level, and she can't cope with that pace. Take for example Simona Halep, she was beyond top 50, yet went on to win 6 titles in a single season and raise to top 3, even making it to a Grand Slam final.

Nothing better than a fall like this one to make you remember how important regularity is. We have seen Caroline Wozniacki holding number 1 spot for months and she hasn't won any Grand Slams, or even players into the top 15 without winning a title at all!

I don't see her getting into modeling, nowadays many players design their own clothes or have a big designer as a partner, like Wozniacki and Stella McCartney, so it's unlikely she will leave her career seeing how she can use the tennis courts to serve as a model and a tennis player at the same time, combining both her passions.
