Valve had recently released a statement saying that they will no longer replace items that have been been taken in some sort of trade scam because the value of each item would go down.

What do you think of this?

I really don't think this is a good idea personally, even if a rare item is taken, sure if it gets replaced the value might be cut by just a little, but the entire value would be lost for the people who ere scammed.

Firstly if you get scammed via a trade.. That is not valve's fault that is your own.  You can literally spend a day researching a trade if you want as the trade won't disappear for a while.. 

Boxia : It also prevents people from claiming valuable items were "scammed" when in reality all they are doing is cloning valuable items to sell... It makes sense if you actually think about it from a economical standpoint
