As a way to cut back on how long the Home Run Derby takes to finish, MLB has now made all rounds timed. WIth this new format, players will have 5 minutes to hit as many home runs as they can and depending on how many they hit in a round and how far they are hit, they can get extra time in a round. This is so players take less swings. Tiebreakers will also be timed with 90 seconds per player.

What are your thoughts on this?

I think it's stupid. People loved the 10 "strikes" and you are done rule. I honestly hope that this gets enough negative feedback, that they change it back. 

I mean, the way I see it, this new commissioner is changing things that don't need to get changed. People pay for a ticket to a game... they don't want the time they are spending there to be shortened! This new commissioner is going to ruin the league just like Gooddell has basically messed with football too much.

thing1 : That's the thing though, people pay to see the game, not to see a player take 5 pitches because he thinks he wont be able to hit them. A full derby probably sees at least 200 passed balls. By making it timed, the player has to swing at each one. Even though its shirt, you will see a lot more.

I don't like the change all that much. While it does promote swinging at every pitch, I don't like adding time to a home run durby. The whole fun of it was seeing how many they could hit without getting 10 outs. I also think that timing wasn't really that much of an issue. It really wasn't that long, and it is fun to watch it for about 3 hours. If it is too short, that won't be that much fun.

Also, how are they going to handle the gold ball? Will they just do it on a number pitch? What if that pitch is bad?
