I've never played Fallout to know for myself, but I've heard that the currency of this game is bottle caps. Apparently, one die hard fan had been collecting bottle caps ever since he fell in love with the game. He's been building up his stash for about 7.5 years, and his hoard of bottle caps has grown to weigh about 11 pounds. Gee! that's a lot of beverages!

When he found about Fallout 4, however, our bottle cap guy decided to do something no one else would have thought of: He would send all of his bottle caps to Bethesda in hopes that they would accept it as pre-payment for Fallout 4. He put all of his bottle caps into boxes and sent it off with a note to Bethesda inside. you can read that here:

No one actually knew if the boxes would actually end up at Bethesda's doorstep, until it was confirmed by Bethesda themselves that they had received the box.

It turns out for this guy's effort and being the first to try he would indeed be recieving a copy of Fallout 4 around November free of charge. (well, unless you count the bottle caps as a payment.) No one else will probably be getting this recognition, though. Just goes to show you it's good to take risks sometimes!

To be honest I didn't really think Bethesda would actually do it. But I guess I was wrong. This is actually pretty amazing, if not a bit disturbing

(i also collect bottlecaps but not on this large of a scale @.@)

yoshirulez! : Thanks for the summoning.

Gingercream1 : Wow, that's really amazing! There are times when game companies surprise you with their generosity towards some hardcore fans. Too bad that I can't collect gold coins to get the next Mario game XD

That is awesome! It's certainly a lot of bottlecaps. It's awesome that they are giving him Fallout 4 for it though.

juuldude : I'm pretty sure sending Nintendo gold coins would basically be buying the game from them. Although if we made a real Super Fighting Robot we should see to getting Mega Man Legends 3, the Miles Edgeworth games, and Mother 3.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

Good job Bethesda. Really it would have been a terrible idea not to accept it: you don't get very far turning away acts of fandom like that. Still, part of me can't help but feel this was more than just good business on their part, I mean how could they not be touched by devotion like that to their product?

Wow, I only have like 300 bottle caps saved up, I wonder what that can get me. It's a good call on Bethesda as well, not accepting it wouldn't really mean anything since, you know, they're bottle caps but actually accepting them says a lot.

This was actually pretty damn cool of Bethesda to do this. I'm not exactly sure if this shows just how big some fans of Fallout would be out there, or just how much of a drinking problem this guy has to try something like this. And this took the guy seven and a half years to get all of this? I'm kind of wondering if he did all of this on his own or if he had help in the matter (I'm hoping for the guys health that he had help), though if he was living with someone, I'd be wondering what that person would be thinking being with a guy that saves up all of his bottle caps like that. Oh well.

Also, I'm surprised that this is the first time that someone even tried doing this You'd think that someone would have tried something like this before hand. But now I'm wondering; since this guy sent all of his bottle caps to Bethesda and got rewarded with a copy of Fallout 4, how many other people are now going to try sending them bottle caps in hopes of getting something themselves. Something tells me the Bethesda offices are going to get flooded with bottle caps now.

I'm just surprised that he managed to gather that many bottle caps. How much did he have to drink? I can only imagine how Bethesda's employees felt when they saw the boxes full of caps. Although, to be honest, I didn't expect that they would actually give him a copy of Fallout 4 for his...caps. I'm sure it'll be worth it once the war hits. 2,240 caps can buy a lot in the Fallout games.

As people in the thread have said already, it must mean a lot to him for them to actually give him a copy of the game. I don't think even he thought they'd actually accept it.
