while I like Starcraft as a game I find that there is very little strategy involved in winning a starcraft multiplayer.... no matter how you go about it those games are very short.

I much prefer turn based strategy games because it's nearly impossible to have a really short game. And when I'm playing a strategy game I prefer long games to short because it involves more strategy.

Give Company of Heroes a go. It's a WWII RTS which I very much like. I think it does everything an RTS should do. Even though it's a few years old, a considerable amount of people still play online.

Just before I say anything, STRATEGY games are games that are concerned on strategy, not just about how fun it is.
Regarding the thread though, I thought that age of empires was a really good game. I liked pretty much everything about it, from hard puzzles/challenges to the actual gameplay. It made me actually THINK, which is what a strategy game is about. Even though when I played this I only just got into gaming, I knew that this game was good. Of course, this is only my opinion, disagree with me if you like, just keep in mind that whatever you say about this will not affect me.

I perfer age of empires, i have played all of them and there expansios and ive played age of mythology as well theyre just all around sweet and in AOE:AOm u can get a laser shooting bear wearing a canadian flag as a cape with two banana throwing monkeys next to him which is just epic

Hmm... While I like Civ4 and the expansions, Age of Empires will always be the best strategy game ever produced. While Empire Earth was good, but wasn't really any match for Age of Empires. I also quite agree with the g man, Command & Conquer is a good RTS series, although I wouldn't recommend C&C4...

I've played almost all of them, except StarCraft.
From the other 3,which I know well, I'll vote Empire Earth.
I like more the options that you have as a player and I think that it's easier to built your own level at this game.
I like sending a UFO against warriors with clubs,lol.
