During the Microsoft Press Conference at E3 2015, it was revealed that 30 of the best Rare games would be released for the Xbox One on a single disc "epic collection" as a way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Rare video company.

The collection will include what they consider the best 30 games that the company has created between 1985 and 2015 from game systems ranging from the Nintendo NES to the Xbox 360. The collection will be missing the Donkey Kong Country games since Nintendo owns the Donkey Kong Country license and it'll also be missing Goldeneye since Activision currently owns the 007 license. It will be released on August 4th, 2015 and will retail for US $30.

Full list of included games:

Atic Atac (ZX Spectrum)
Banjo-Kazooie (N64)
Banjo-Tooie (N64)
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (X360)
Battletoads (NES)
Battletoads Arcade (Arcade)
Blast Corps (N64)
Cobra Triangle (NES)
Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64)
Digger T. Rock (NES)
Grabbed by the Ghoulies (XB)
Gunfright (MSX)
Jet Force Gemini (N64)
Jetpac (ZX Spectrum)
Jetpac Refuelled (X360)
Kameo: Elements of Power (X360)
Killer Instinct Gold (N64)
Knight Lore (MSX)
Lunar Jetman (ZX Spectrum)
Perfect Dark (N64)
Perfect Dark Zero (X360)
R.C. Pro-Am (NES)
R.C. Pro-Am 2 (NES)
Sabre Wulf (ZX Spectrum)
Slalom (NES)
Snake Rattle n Roll (NES)
Solar Jetman: Hunt for the Golden Warpship (NES)
Underwurlde (ZX Spectrum)
Viva Piñata (X360)
Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise (X360)

This collection will be more than just a collection of ports. The games will of course play in HD and will include features such as "bonus content", "exclusive looks at the creation of Rare Replay’s hits", achievements (10,000 total so that's probably around 333 per a game), and more.

So what do I think of this? I think this is awesome! I've been a fan of Rare for almost as long as I've been gaming. In the 90s, they were one of the best gaming companies and produced a lot of my favorite games including Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day, the Donkey Kong Country series, Snake Rattle n Roll, Goldeneye and more! While it is a shame that Goldeneye will not be part of this collection, the fact that it contains Perfect Dark makes up for it since that's the spiritual successor to Goldeneye and runs off the same engine and took an already awesome multiplayer experience and made it even better! Now I just hope that the version of Perfect Dark in this collection is the HD remake version which was released on the Xbox 360 arcade a few years ago because with that release, they greatly improved the graphics, added some nice features, gave it online multiplayer capabilities all while keeping the game true to the original.

It really is about time that Rare steps up and breaks free from the Kinect curse. When Microsoft acquired Rare back in 2002, they continued to make good games but their quality dropped a little. But then Microsoft made them in charge of making Kinect games and then that's all we got from Rare was Kinect games and we no longer saw the company being put to its fullest potential which was a huge disappointment. Rare's image took a huge hit during this time and eventually a bunch of original members of the company left to form a new company called 'Playtonic Games' and they started a successful Kickstarter campaign for a game called "Yooka-Laylee".

Now that Microsoft seems to be shifting their direction with Rare, and it seems that the direction is a similar direction to that of their 90s direction, I'm very excited about the Rare company again. When Killer Instinct came out for the Xbox One, that was a sign that Rare was going back to its roots and was reviving its old franchises. When they added the Battletoads to the Xbox One version of Shovel Knight (as seen here), that basically confirmed that Rare was back and this 'Rare Replay' collection will even further prove it.

Hopefully the sales of this collection are good (and it should for only $30) and hopefully it encourages Rare to continue to revive some of their old franchises. I'm sure we can also expect to see lots of other fun features included in this collection such as leaderboards and save states and hopefully it also has online multiplayer. I'm also excited to see what the "bonus content" consists of.

This is something that I am interested in, but no sure how much I would play it. This would probably be something I got if only I was asked by my streaming viewers to get once I start to get more people.

UPDATE: I decided to pre-order it today. i only paid the minimum, but I;ll probably pay the rest off next month.

thing1 : Yeah there's no reason not to get this because you're basically paying $1 per a game! Some of these games are worth $30+ alone. Conker's Bad Fur Day goes for nearly $100 loose on Ebay and Perfect Dark is a good enough game to easily justify spending $30+ on. I honestly think this should've been at least a $60 retail game or been released in parts. But I'm not complaining, Microsoft has been more than generous lately (for example, all 15 DLC Maps for Halo 5 will be free!).

MarioMasta : Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

MarioMasta : They also put RC Pro AM II. Hardly deserving of the "best" collection....

They don't even have any of the Donkey Kong Country games...
Seems a bit self-serving here...lots of mediocre Xbox360 ports/remakes of games on this list...

Vanelan : How could they put Donkey Kong Country on there though when Nintendo owns that license?

MarioMasta : Even if there are a few bad games on there the fact that this collection is only $30 for 30 games, the good games make up for the price many times.

Davideo7 : All 15 maps for Halo 5 will be free? Where in the world did you hear that at? And if that is the case, what is the point in me pre-ordering the Limited Edition then, instead of the standard edition?

Davideo7 : Its a Rare game.
There are others that should be on there though that Nintendo doesn't own the license, such as Wizards and Warriors, NARC, and Battletoads.

Vanelan : Battletoads is on there though, 2 versions of the game. I actually hadn't realized Wizards & Warriors was made by Rare; too bad it's not included.

thing1 : Does the Limited Edition claim to come with the DLC?

IGN reported that the 15 DLC Map Pack would be free here:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/09/all-halo-5-guardians-dlc-maps-will-be-free

The game already comes with 20 maps so add another 15 and you have 35 maps which is quite a bit.

Davideo7 : As far I as I know, Gamestop's Limited Editions usually include the Season pass, so I looked it up, and got this:

Base Edition
Limited Edition
Limited Collector's Edition

It seems some physical stuff, and the only thing I would really be interested in are the orders, which I'm sure I'll be able to find online soon after the release. Also, it seems like another Mini series, but that'll show up on the Halo Channel App. So, it looks like I'll be downgrading to the base model.

I know we are getting off topic here... but it also seems that TMCC is not co-op split screen ( haven't tried ) , and that 5 won't be either. That's a shame.

Davideo7 : Well, that is reassuring.

I know this is off topic again, but do you want in to the XBOX Preview Program? If you don't know what it is, look it up on xbox.com
I got invited by somebody, and I should get my email within a few days. Once I get mine, I can invite you if you'd like.

I got to admire the obscurity of Rare for including stuff like ZX Spectrum games and MSX games of all things. Guess some of these game are rare in more ways than the company name itself. It is too bad none of the Wizards and Warriors games are part of the collection because anything with David Wise as the music composer is definitely worth being in a collection. Heck, where is Anticipation? That game was way ahead of its time with trying to guess the object first and would be a good game to play against opponents online for some intense competition.

RC Pro am and Pro AM 2 are solid games. The games I question are titles Like Viva Pinata and the sequel. Solid games, but do they really deserve to be on a "best of" disk? Probably not. Slalom isn't really that great of a game either, but those games take up almost no space on the disk, so I understand their inclusion.

Not really something that would have me jumping to own a xONE, but it's a cool collection for a really cheap price.

Azul Fria : There must be a reason why they couldn't include Wizards & Warriors because that should've been added, I can't believe it wasn't.

Not only is this collection suppose to be a collection of Rare games but it's also suppose to be a tribute to the company and its history which is probably why they've chosen to offer up some of their oldest games which are on the ZX Spectrum.

Jordanv78 : Although I'm not interested in Viva Pinata, I'm also not complaining that it's in this collection because that game currently goes for around $50 new and you're basically getting it for $1 in this collection. Like I said to Azul Fria, I think they wanted to show off a variety of games through their entire existence.

I agree that this isn't something that would make someone want to buy and Xbox One but this should excite current and past Rare fans since this will definitely open the doors to Rare reviving some of these old franchises in some way. Heck, they've already been reviving some of their old franchises lately (the new Killer Instinct games and Battletoads being in the Xbox One version of Shovel Knight).

One of the actual few cool things the Xbox One is getting that I actually care about, that is a sweet compilation games and it's very cheap as well.

In the end it's not a deal breaker I suppose, but it would've been cool to have some of those games on the PS4, seems like a must buy for Xbox One owners in my opinion, if only because of how cheap it is, and how much value you're getting for your money.

Though them including Nuts & Bolts in that list kind of seems like a kick to face of the Banjo & Kazooie franchise, you'd think they would've learned by now, that almost nobody wanted a subpar Banjo & Kazooie racing game, still the other games more than make up for it.

Sega should do something like this with their games :V

Zlinqx : SEGA did do something like this with their games a few years ago with the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection here:
http://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Ultimate-Genesis-Collection-Xbox-360/dp/B001G3AZS2/ref=sr_1_1_twi_2_gam?ie=UTF8&qid=1436498018&sr=8-1&keywords=sega+genesis+collection

I bought that collection like right when it came out and I see it's down to around $20 new now which is an amazing deal considering it comes with 48 games total (some need to be unlocked) between the Sega Genesis, Arcade and Sega Master System. It's basically just ports of the games and nothing you can't get from a rom except the fact that they added achievements and offer some interviews and behind the scenes type content. The fact that it has achievements though is the reason why I invested so much time into this collection because I earned every single 1. Each game had 1 achievement you could earn which made it a lot fun to try and get that achievement in each game. It gave you incentive to play games you've never played before and it made it very enjoyable at the same time. I highly recommend that collection.

Before I get too far off topic, I'll quickly list all of the games that SEGA collection comes with.

Sega Genesis games: Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Beyond Oasis/The Story of Thor, Bonanza Bros., Columns, Comix Zone, Decap Attack, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Dynamite Headdy, Ecco the Dolphin, Ecco: The Tides of Time, ESWAT: City Under Siege, Fatal Labyrinth, Flicky, Gain Ground, Golden Axe, Golden Axe II, Golden Axe III, and Kid Chameleon.

Sega Mayster System games: Golden Axe Warrior and Phantasy Star.

Arcade games: Alien Syndrome, Altered Beast, Congo Bongo, Fantasy Zone, Shinobi, Space Harrier and Zaxxon.

If you own an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3, get this collection!
