Most of us forum members know about Stanley Kubrick, if you're not familiar with them then you've probably haven't seen his works.

If you've seen the flicks 2001: A Space Odyssey, Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Dr Strangelove, Spartacus then thats Stanley Kubrick.

In my opinion he's a really overrated director.

2001: A Space Odyssey: I don't care how much praise this gets, but I didn't like this movie at all. As a friend said it best "Its an arthouse flick" and I can see why. Seriously, you have a guy floating and breathing in space for 7 minutes and the only real action is between Hal and Dave for like 10 minutes. If anything, I really liked the special effects that Kubrick did.

Clockwork Orange: This is a movie that would be good if they cut it down a bit, and you can get the point of this movie: A guy and his pals going around and hurting the elderly. Though the music selection was really good in that film.

Barry Lyndon: This is a movie I couldn't even watch, when I looked at the 3 hour time limit I knew I'd be f***ed with this one.

The Shining: This has got to be one of my favorite movies of all time, and without reading the book it could be a really good thriller. Though the whole Redrum mystery was just ass.

Full Metal Jacket: I've only seen the first part of the film with Pyle and Joker and it's actually far superior than other Vietnam war films. R Lee Ermey one of the best drill instructors that I've seen in a lot of movies.

Your opinion on Kubricks movies?

No I think he is underrated to be honest. Many people think The Shining is probably the most overrated horror movie around but I think it is the only horror movie that actually accomplished horror though phycological subliminal messages. Plus, I also believe no other horror movie built up the suspense to the capacity of the shining.

The music, the location, the story and the actors... its a masterpiece. Nothing comes close to it in my mind.

Now and days you got lame playboy models in horror movies and overuse of cheesy gore or lame effects. To me, The Shining is the ONLY horror movie around, the rest seem like garbage to me.

Full Metal Jacket was a great film as well, probably the best war movie ever and yea R Lee Ermey delivered one of the best performances in cinema ever.

As for the other movies, I can't say anything as I have not seen them.

So is Kubrick overrated? No way, he paved the way for many others in my opinion. And his movies will stand the test of time.

I've seen 2001, and the Shining so far, and I can't wait to see more. I don't think he's overrated though, 'cause I haven't met many people who have heard of him or seen his movies.

Then why contribute that spam post to this thread?

I have to admit, one of his older works Spartacus was really good.
