Ahh..Mickey Mania. I remember this game fondly from my childhood, though it was the sega genesis version. When I saw that Mickey Mania was able on vizzed for the super nintendo I was intrigued, so looked up Mickey Mania. I found that the sega genesis was significantly easier than its super nintendo counterpart. And from what I experience they were right, and I am going to what I thought about it.

Story

This is Mickey's greatest adventure ever! A force of immeasurable evil has manipulated time itself to threaten the very lives of Mickey's self across all time and space. If our hero Mickey does not succeed in saving them, he may very well fade from existence. I am just kidding, I have no idea why the story is the way that is. All I know that you travel to different parts of Mickey's past in what are known to be the most well known Mickey Mouse cartoons. Despite the story having no explanation I do have to say that the graphics capture those old cartoons.

Graphics

Mickey Mania does a rather nice job to capture the look of the old Mickey Mouse cartoons. Both characters and the environment look the way they would actually appear in the old cartoons. Even the animations of the characters remind me of the old Mickey Mouse cartoons. However, despite the visuals rather successfully capturing the look of the old cartoons, I feel different about the sound

Sound

First, I have to say that Mickey Mouse sounds just the way that he has always, even though it’s limited to noises, laughter, and “uh,oh”. The music sounds pretty good, and fits perfectly well with the levels, such as The Mad Doctor level’s music sounds kinda spooky, which fits its look. However, I found that a lot of the sound effects were kinda low quality, sounding rather bit crushed to me. But, unlike the sound, the gameplay isn’t as lackluster.

Gameplay

Mickey Mania is a platformer where you can defeat enemies by either jumping on them or throwing marbles. However, throwing marbles becomes much more useful later on. While the game starts out incredible easy, it becomes much more difficult as you go along. I mean seriously, I do not remember dying so many times on the Mad Doctor level in the genesis version. Both the levels and the bosses become more difficult as you progress. For example, in the forest level, you have jump over this charging moose when Pluto warns you, and the Mad Doctor boss has him throw a buttload of potions whenever he gets hits. But, an issue I have with the game is that there are moments when Mickey doesn’t jump high enough, which makes dodging the moose in the forest level kinda difficult.

For a platformer, Mickey Mania is actually pretty decent, and it captures the art style of the old Mickey Mouse cartoons very well. However, the difficulty of SNES version does not make this a good choice for the targeted audience: kids. Little kids would certainly find Mickey Mania too frustrating for them to play.

This is really good, I like how you put in a picture to show how the graphics are, I don't see people doing that and I feel its a great idea. The review is nice and clean, I can't find any problems with the way that you formatted it and its a good length. The only thing that I can really suggest is putting a number grade right next to the title for each category that way readers can easily spot out the grade.

Overall, I think you did a pretty good job of reviewing this game. You were detailed and went into a good amount of depth in describing the key components of the game which is already a crucial element of reviewing in and of itself. You broke down the categories of the game quite nicely and you did a good job of explaining your position on the game as a whole.

I think it is a nice change to have a picture within your review as well because it captivates the reader and keeps their attention. Altogether I think this turned out to be a pretty solid review. Keep up the good work and I hope to read more of your reviews.

Yay, here comes Eirinn to rain on everyone's parade (one of the only downsides to my job is stuff like this).
Actually while images in reviews are an awesome idea, they aren't technically allowed by review forum rules. :/ They require the use of tags, which are forbidden despite few people actually knowing that. I'm still trying to get ahold of David to see if we can get that changed.

Supergamer - Good work on the review otherwise. I remember this game from when I was a kid as well (I also played the Genesis version). That moose level seemed tough to me back in the day, and since it was a rental I didn't get to finish it. I may try it again now though

EDIT: Stinkin' rainbow banner ruined my zander summon. I know better than to copy/paste summon a rainbow banner user.

An excellent review of a game I also enjoyed a lot. I loved how you tried to be funny with the storyline even though there isn't much of one .

I also like your idea of posting an actual screen shot of the game to illustrate the graphics. I might consider doing it for my reviews.

And overall you gave it good details and structure, worthy of a 4.
