Note: This part is for the newbies at pokemon and explains stuff like catching pokemon, and choosing your starter, so if you are the more percent of people who want to get into the good stuff, skip this part. Also, don't look at this as a walkthrough, or strategy guide, because it is neither of those.

Source of information : uk.ign.com, and my knowledge of Pokemom Alpha Sapphire in general.

Welcome to a new series of Pokemon Guides called the Pikaguide, to help you get on with your pokemon adventure! In this part, I'll be explaining how to start the perfect first game and catching your first pokemon, we will also be exploring all the stuff you need to know to be a pokemon master!! Well then, let's get started. In

Choosing your first starter
Once you've gone through the Professor's speech, you will be asked to choose your first starter.
There are 3 pokemon to choose from. They are Trecko, Torchic and Mudkip.

Torchic is a FIRE type pokemon, it specialises in Special Attack and
attack stats, it's downside is that all other stats are pretty far behind,
if you are going to use this pokemon, make sure you do not use any
defence moves for this guy and go for an all out attack.

Mudkip is a WATER type pokemon, it's highest stats are HP and Attack,
everything else is a little bit behind, out of all of them, speed is the worst.
You will take so much damage, but just make sure that when you gain the move
retaliate you use it on this fella.

Trecko is a GRASS type pokemon, his stats are quite good in Special Attack
and Speed, but the attack and Special Defence are way low, and the HP
and Defence are so low you should forget about defence with this pokemon,
go in with special defence with this guy.

So, with all that's out of the way, which pokemon should you choose?
Well, whatever appeals to you out of stat wise. If you like attack, choose
Torchic etc.

Battle System:
Your next step now should be to get a feel for the battle system by
battling/catching pokemon, Get a feel for that pokemon's move set
and try to adapt to a play style that you can keep to for a long period
of time until you get different moves. Also, and this is a newbie mistake,
don't spread all the work on your main pokemon, before long, you'll have
a team of 6 and if your main pokemon faints, your other pokemon are not
that skilled against your opponent.

Catching Pokemon:
Before long, your pokemon should be at a good level and levelling quickly,
now it's time to catch wild pokemon, and no, they are not as bad as they sound,
to catch a wild pokemon, just use your bag option in battle and select a pokeball
if you have one, if you don't you should stock up on them from the Poke Mart, (More on that in a bit)
It is best to lower the pokemon's health to around acceptable ranges to catch them easier.

Pokemon Marts and Centers :
You've just caught up you new and fabulous pokemon, and they
are all very low on HP, but don't worry, in every city, there's a special
place you can go to called the Pokemon Center, here, Nurse Joy can heal up
your pokemon to full health, the Pokemon Center also has a PC, (more on that
later) and sometimes, gifts from a special person. (More on that in a later part)
The Poke Mart also comes in handy when you are low on Pokeballs, or other things
like potions, repels, and full restrores to aid you on your adventure! You can also sell
rare things here like Nuggets and the Stones.

Rustboro City/Gym
Now, your next stop is the First Gym in Rustboro City, in this city also,
you can find the Devon Corporation (This is more involved later in the
game) and the second Pokemon Center and Mart appearance. Anyways,
the leader of this gym is Roxanne. She and her trainers use ROCK type pokemon.
Suggestions against these type are Water, Ground, Steel, Fighting and Grass. These pokemon that you should use against her, and since Grass and Water are easily found in the beginning of the game, you have a great chance to win against her, just be warned though. You may have to do a bit of grinding to get your pokemon to high standards, she's not tough, but can beat you if you don't try hard enough.
After this, you should talk to Mr. Britney in his house to go to Dewford Town.

Well then, basics all covered up until the first gym, I think I did a pretty awesome job on that. Next time, we'll be exploring Dewford Town and heading over to a new event in Slateport City, the pokemon contest spectacular! Wow, can't wait, I'll see you guys next time on the pages of Pikaguide, the show where I help you become a pokemon master!
