I am very sad today due to the plane in Europe crashing over the Alps.

It is really a tradegy.

Rest in Peace everyone.

Will you ever fly again, there have been too many crashes recently.

Well, I've never flown before anyway, but these plane crashes and disappearances we've had in the last year or so isn't making want to change that anytime soon.  And now the news coming out on that crash in the Alps is that the pilot wanted the plane to crash and commit suicide. But why take all those people with him? I just can't understand it.

I have been terrified of flying my whole life and haven't been on a plane since I was twelve and this "suicidal pilot"-scenario doesn't really change that to one way or another. But I would still say it is safe to fly, especially in Europe. At least inside Europe. Safer than riding a car or crossing the street drunk. But I am still less terrified of ending my days with my both feet on solid ground than having to live 10 000 feet above the ground for a few hours. If you know what I mean.

May those who were there, rest in peace and those who lost their loved ones, find peace.

I have only been in a plane I think 4 times in my life and I really love it. I'm not going to stop flying, whenever I get a chance to fly somewhere, I'm going to go regardless of where it is because I love flying. Nothing is going to get in my way of flying, the only thing that really bothers me is the stupid popping ears.

zanderlex :

Have some hard candy and try sort of swallowing it. It helped me a bit. It sort of keeps your ears from closing in by the air pressure.

Since flying is becoming more and more popular, there's much more flights going around than even a few years ago. It's only natural that there'll be more chances for accidents. Though if you compare the amount of flights and the amount of crashes, it's still super safe.

We just hear more news about crashes due to the increasing popularity of flying, and assume that it's super dangerous. Also keep in mind that it was the co-pilot who let the plane crash, and not the mechanics on board.

That said though, I'm not ashamed to admit that planes terrify me. I know they're really safe, but I hate the thought of being 15.000 feet above solid ground in a huge piece of
metal.

I'm honestly not scared of flying. I may be terrified of heights, but planes are the exception.
And I agree with Furret, in that there are so many planes that fly in and out every day, that the ratio of those planes that crash is really quite small. It's just that you hear more about plane crashes than safe flights.

I've flown so many times... It's really just not as bad as people think. (Pro tip: Get a seat in the middle and the flights not that bad...)

But, I do reach out to all those families that lost dear ones on that fatal flight!

But, a statistic everyone should know: Planes are safest mode of transportation in the world today! More people die in car accidents than in plane crashes... (But this was a man who had many thing influencing him to do wrong! It was more than just one thing leading up to this horrendous act.)

I have a flight this Friday with the same company of the crashed plane, Germanwings. And yes, I will take that flight.

Accidents can happen anytime. The only problem with planes is that they transport so much people at once, so if there's an accident, many people can be potentially killed. I understand why people would back off of flying because of this, but I'm not one of those. The risk always exists, even if it's a very small chance, but it will always be there.

I would like to note that this flight is getting such a high popularity because it's a first: no pilot has tried suicide before in Europe. There have been other suicidal acts like this around the world, and some more which aren't proven yet. Don't forget the two Malaysian Airlines flights that crashed within few months time, with one of them still not found after more than a year, and people doesn't refrain from flying in that company.

I haven't ever flied before but I still do plan to fly. I will keep the families of the lost love ones in my prayers and may the ones who died rest in peace. I feel as if anything can happen whether your in a plane a car a train or even on a simple bike but life is too short to be worrying about every little thing that may and may not happen. If I ever get a chance to get on a plane you better bet I will be doing just that. I want to live my life to the fullest and I know putting access worries on my shoulders won't help.

May the people that were lost in all the plane crashes rest in peace and may their families also find peace.

As for all these recent plane crashes and incidents, even if we fear flying, we can't help but keep flying sometimes. For some people, it's part of their job, and for others it's to get to their workplace. Life and work is hard enough as is without having to worry about plane incidents, so I do hope the maintenance issues and whatever else has been causing some of these incidents will be fixed and resolved soon.

In response to the question, yes, I will be flying again at some point.

I have only made two round trips in my lifetime, so I have only been on a plane 4 times in my life. Every time, the flight went really smoothly and we had minimal turbulence each time. I have flown to Reno NV from Atlanta and Buffalo NY from Atlanta. We flew over the Grand Canyon on the way to Reno, which I thought was really nice. My wife was with me, and it was the first time she had ever been on a plane. She was terrified...it was actually really cute! That made me feel even better about flying.

Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to say is I would absolutely fly again if I really had to. Nothing bad has happened to me so far, so I'll keep flying until something does happen

Of course I will. It's not like I'm going 3/4 of the country by car.

Despite that tragedy, plane traveling is still one of the safest (and quickest, albeit increasingly uncomfortable) means of transportations available. Granted, you're screwed if you're in an accident but it's unlikely to happen.
