I swear this agitates me so much...

How come, every SINGLE time they get what they ask for, they complain about it? It's getting on my nerves!

I'm a Zelda fan myself, and I probably love the series more than any other at the moment, but the fandom is embarrassing. It's just embarrassing.

A new title comes out. It's innovative, and it has brand new game mechanics. This is Nintendo's response to the whining about "lack of innovation".

What is the answer?

"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! IT ISN'T ZELDA AT ALL! WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE GIVEN US SOMETHING MORE FAMILIAR AND NOSTALGIC? EW!"

Later, a new game comes out. The game's mechanics are similar to those of older games, and it is a remake. What do the fans have to say about it?

"UUUGH... NINTENDO IS SO LAZY! IT'S BASICALLY THE SAME GAME ALL OVER AGAIN... WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE MADE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR A CHANGE? WE NEED INNOVATION!"

So Nintendo makes an innovative Zelda game with brand new ideas, and the cycle repeats itself over and over and over and over and over AND OVER AND OVER again...

It's so stupid!

My problem is not the complaining. People have the right to complain. My issue is with the fact that they complain because they get what they ask for. That doesn't make ANY sense! Seriously?

I know not all Zelda fans are like this. I'm friends with a few great Zelda fans, but I've noticed that the majority of the franchise's fans are. Like I said before, it's embarrassing.

It's a fantastic series. Simply amazing. It's brilliant. It's too bad most of its fans aren't the same.

What if Nintendo decides to merge the two? New and old? A new title that revisits an older world but with new game mechanics.

I know exactly what's going to happen.

"UGH! THEY RUINED A CLASSIC! THIS IS JUST HORRIBLE!"

NintendoFanKimmy, out!~

As a person who is a novice to the franchise, the fanboys/fangirls was always one of the things that I had a problem with though for somewhat different reasons.

Basically whenever I disagreed about pretty much any Zelda game being a masterpiece especially OoT, I'd get flamed and be called an idiot who's favorite game is CoD, If you want an example go on to any review of OoT on youtube and write a comment where you criticize the game in any way, shape or form... You'll be lucky if you even survive. And I haven't actually seen the fans complain about the games, I only see how nearly everyone seemed to have nearly wet their pants as soon as they saw the teaser trailer for the wii u version of Zelda.

I know not all people are like this but a good chunk of them are and when I do meet these kind of people they're honestly about as annoying as some of the Sonic fanboys/fangirls can be, blindly defending the games no matter what you say. The difference is, that even the critics agree with the fanboys, many people still call OoT the greatest game ever made even though it's clearly aged... A lot.

Not saying that the games are bad, I get why they have a large fandom and I've enjoyed a few of them myself but you can't even try criticizing them in the slightest and not expect a huge backlash, luckily I've met really few people who are like this on Vizzed so it's not a problem I've had as much of late but it still irks me which is why I felt I needed to get this off my chest.

NintendoFanKimmy : Yeah, I noticed that big issue. Almost every Zelda fans are intolerant. They have to take it easy on Nintendo. Nintendo consists every employees, managers, administrators, presidents, and the rest. They have a life, they are not the robots of the Zelda fans. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Well, much of the fandom revolves around Ocarina of Time. I'm not exactly the biggest Zelda fan, but my favorite Zelda game is probably Skyward Sword. It used to be #2 in my favorite games. Perhaps it still is, but it's been a while. It just did so many things right. Yet much of the "fandom" criticizes this game to oblivion, it seems. I'm not hating on OoT, but I believe people really need to see the good in every game.

NintendoFanKimmy :

Well, I used to be a big Zelda fan. I loved OOT, still think it's a 10/10. And I find MM a wonderful follow up in the series.

I think that Nintendo has kindof done this too themselves however.

For, one, when they are "innovative." They just aren't innovative enough. I notice they love to make one masterpiece. (Like Ocarina of Time) And then copy it. Adding a few slight twists, to make it "New" But it's still so much the same that it's really not. It's actually just lukewarm.

Take Twilight Princes and OOT. They are so similar it's not even funny.

In both games you:

Start in a forest.

Enter a tree as the first dungeon.

Visit the Gorons.

Enter a mountain as the First Dungeon.

Visit the Zoras.

Get the Master Sword. (What? You want to get your own sword like in real RPGs? One you can upgrade? LOL, this is the legend of Zelda. The Master Sword is the best one handed sword you can get, you cant save up hard earned money to customize your own blade or choose from among many. LOL).

And from here the game is kindof different.

Plus, you have the Twilight Realm stuff going on here and there.

But to me, it's still no fun. There are so many things I wish were different about the Legend of Zelda Series, that one might become disdained after hearing about it.

1. The game has no developed characters. Except in Majora's Mask. You have Link as the main character. You have Zelda who Get's captured. And you have Gannondorf, who does his own thing.

2. Link must fix everything almost by himself. No Hyrulian Army. No Battles. No fighting dragons in Hyrule field. Go in dungeons. Dungeons are the secret to saving Hyrule. Always clear out the Dungeons, then everything will be fixed.

3. When I beat the game, all there is to do is start a new file. No more fighting enemies. Can't redo the dungeons. All I can do is fish.

4. Restarting the game is boring because of all the cutscenes.

5. The game is very linear for an action RPG. NO alternate swords. Most game don't even give you more than four. There's one tunic, (Not even with different colors anymore.) And a bunch of alternate weapon's, whose usefulness is debatable in each game.

6. The map is always the same. It's the same kingdom, with the same three characters, and maybe an altered map. (A little bit.) No new political parties, or forces. Existing ones, never fight in the battle field. In the end, the world feels very shallow to me.

Maybe I've just gotten older, but in my book, there are only 5 good Zelda Games.

OOT, and MM (These should have been the core to the series, and they should have kept using this Link And make him visit lot's of new lands.)

Zelda 1 and Zelda 2. (Zelda actually has quite a bit of upgrades!)

---------- The Only Zelda Game that Did what I wanted-

Was Majora's Mask.

Goodbye Hyrule, Goodbye Master Sword. Hello creativity and the awesome world of Majora. The Game is incredibly deep with REAL NPCs you can actually kindof feel for. You also technically are playing as other heroes when you put on the transformation Masks. And Even Kafie is playable!

The new clock system was amazing. A great feature added to the game over the new story.

And Skull kid, on top of the Happy Mask Salesmen make great new characters who actually have some story behind them.

Now, Sonic is actually a series that rolls with me a lot better. It used lot's of alternate characters, Sonic isn't alone, and UNLIKE Hryrule THE GOVERNMENT IS ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING!

Taking on Shadow, the Black Arms, and Dr. Eggman, in both Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. But mostly in Shadow the Hedgehog.

The series Sega knew what they wanted to do. It's just after negative feedback over Sonic 06 and Shadow the Hedgehog, they gave up on it. Sonic became a less epic series about one character, the blue hedgehog. (Though done well until Sonic Colors).

Some say MM's hate is what made Nintendo change. And no, I do not like WindWaker as an "innovative" title.

The graphics are pure betrayal.

And the boat is boring at times- that means the game would have been better off without.

Don't put a feature in your game that will slow it down, or make it boring. I'm not saying to totally do away with the boat, but there should have been a method to speed up time while sailing too. (plus, IIRC, the warp points wouldn't take you everywhere you need to go.

And that's my rant.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

Skyward Sword is your favorite?

http://nintendofankimmy.deviantart.com/art/I-M-NOT-THE-ONLY-ONE-521850664

Sword legion :

I simply adore OoT and MM, especially MM, as well, and I have barely even played either of them! If this is how much I love them while only basing my opinion on the few parts of walkthroughs I watched and the characters I read about, then I'm sure I'd love them even more if I played them xD! The only thing I don't like, though, is when one person says one negative thing about them, and then gets flamed for it . That's not cool.

Bro, believe me, if I had the same likes and dislikes concerning games as you do, I would find your post the most relatable thing on Vizzed. I get what you mean, but I personally don't find cutscenes boring at all. I even look up some and watch them again ! Since some people don't like them the second time, though, what you said is totally understandable.

I agree sword customization would bring a lot more enthusiasm from a lot of fans. Myself, I don't really care for getting creative with my sword for some reason, but I know there are tons of people who do, and I agree that it would be pretty cool.

As for character development... I agree. The lack of it in the series is noticeable. You're right that MM is probably the Zelda game with the most characters you can feel for. I love it because of the whole "spend your time wisely" thing. There are many sad people you can make happy despite the end of the world being scheduled in, like, three days, and that's awesome. The only two people I can think of with character development at the moment besides the ones you mentioned are Linebeck from Phantom Hourglass and Groose from Skyward Sword ;w;.

I don't know so much about it, but I did see Green playing MM the other day when were are our grandma's house, and he learned this dance thing from a ghost guy or something who told him that he was counting on him to spread it and make it popular. He then went and taught it to a couple of people.

That's it. A stupid dance. That's the only thing it is. It doesn't bring any benefit whatsoever. But why would you do it?

Because it was that ghost dude's final wish. And you were making it come true.

I just find that so < 3.

I think MM would be either my first or second favorite if I ended up playing it, which I probably will. Question though (you can answer via Profile Comment if you want), do I have to play OoT to play MM? Because I kind of want to skip to MM xD.

Anyway, one last thing. I found the graphics of Wind Waker adorable < 3, and I loved them, but that's just my opinion. I notice a lot of people don't like it when the games are "kiddy" in some parts, but I don't mind it that much. What I look for is effort, and I find it quite often ;P.

OMG I agree with you on the boat thing... IT'S TOOO SLOW. I saw Green playing WWHD, and it appeared to be taking forever ;w;. He and I loved everything else, though .

Whew. I'm done.

Sword, the way you analyzed stuff and just talked about stuff and shared your opinion and stuff politely and stuff was, like, really cool... and stuff.

Sir, you are what a TRUE Zelda fan should be like .

JustAriel : Yeah. What I meant, though, was that it's kind of strange that people get angry when they ask for a new game and then get a new game or ask for a nostalgic game and then get a nostalgic game XD!

Also, yeah, I'm really excited !

NintendoFanKimmy :

Don't worry, I'm a Shadow the Hedgehog fan. And I haven't even played the game, I watched an LP. I know it gets a lot of hate, but I support it and the idea it had going for it. (Sonic 06 as well, except that game actually isn't much fun to play if you keep messing up because the loading time).

I like cutscenes, it's just I've literally completed Ocarina of Time 3 times over and watched my siblings go through many playthroughs as well. OOT was my life for a while. So many glitches and neat ways you could expose the game. (Even stuff like glitching the game to get purple or black gauntlets on Link. Really cool looking.)

If you want character development, see Sonic. It has some of the deepest stories I've ever seen between 1999 and 2006.

Play OOT before MM?

Nah, just play MM if it's your thing. There isn't much you have to know before the game. Though OOT is a good game if you choose to play it. Just know that it's longer, and really isn't as innovative. But it is a classic, and set the ground for what would have become an awesome series, but instead became a duology. (We should have had way more game made after the heart of OOT and MM.)

Making poeple happy. That was the point of MM. and as a token of that, you got a mask to remind you of the short happiness that you brought.

Then you can trade it all away as a sacrifice to become a demon. (Literally, in the Japanese version of the game, Feirce Deity Link is actually called, Oni (Demon) Link.) And the boss fight is a cake walk.

Some deep things to think about that game. I wish there were more games like it. In fact I wish there were more deep family friend RPGs to begin with, that were for someone my age. XD

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

imamonster : I definitely agree with you. Nintendo fans keep asking for old, new, or whatever type of game. They're blaming Nintendo for not getting what they wanted. Nintendo has a goal, and fans should respect Nintendo's work.

EDIT: Wait, you're one of the annoying Nintendo fans? I think you're not, or maybe I misread your post.

Your totally right, sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who likes 90% of everything Nintendo comes out with for Zelda.

In almost any situation, whether it be a fanbase, a populous, or even students, there are two groups of people. One is what you describe here in this thread, the ones who can never be pleased, who are too openly critical, and who constantly get on the nerves of the group itself, and also its critics. These are the complete douchebags loud minority. Of course, these people who express their opinions can also be of the same mild demographic as the below group, but if politics has shown us anything, it is hardly the case.

However, around 70-80 percent of any given fanbase of something, usually consists of people like myself and yourself. We enjoy what is given to us, and if we find problems, we either keep the feelings as personal opinions or at a stretch take them somewhere like a reasonable argument or a game review. So, the reason why you never see these people is because they don't necessarily want to be seen, or something along those lines. People like myself are the silent majority.

I guess in a fun tidbit, the term "silent majority" was most likely popularized by Richard Nixon. Huh.

Sword legion : Allow me to preface my reply to your post by saying one thing: you know I would never be rude to anyone intentionally. So what I say next is actually an honest opinion and suggestion, not sarcasm.

Your points were all good, but they all shared a common theme: ways that Zelda could improve by being like other Action-RPGs.
But that's just the thing: it has such a loyal (if annoying) fanbase because it's different from other Action RPGs. You see, Zelda has a few core things that make it unlike other games in it's genre, and really changing any of them that you pointed out would make it just another Action RPG, but as it stands, Zelda is almost it's own sub genre.

I agree those other features would be a blast to play with, but just like we said in your book thread a while back, if Nintendo adds those things to Zelda it will just be copying everyone else. Zelda revolves around three core things, namely the tri force, the Master Sword, and the dungeons. Remove any of those and you're making a Zelda spinoff rather than a new Zelda.

In fact, I think that's exactly what Nintendo should do: make a few Zelda spinoff series'. Why not? Mario has them and they're huge! I for one would love to see them explore these new areas you mentioned, but they should do so with spinoffs rather than by altering the main series itself. The main series needs to be true to it's roots while finding a new way to do so.

And if we want those features in the mean time, we have a plethora of Action RPGs that do those things, so why not try them out instead of waiting for Zelda to fall in line with the norm?

Again, you do have good ideas, I just think they should be used in spinoff titles instead of the main Zelda series. Doing so in the main one would betray the fanbase and it's own heritage.

NintendoFanKimmy - As usual you have a good point and a great thread.

I agree entirely: I heard so many people grumbling about Zelda lacking any new content, and then Hyrule Warriors was announced and they went nuts. "This isn't Zelda at all!!!"

On behalf of Nintendo, allow me to say "Make up my mind!"

They give you the same stuff with minor tweaks all the time until one day they hear the complaints and give you something different and now you hate that too? Oi!

So in short, no, the fanbase will never be happy. Also I can't stand hearing "OoT is the greatest Zelda of all time!". I don't like that one too much, and while I understand the right to have an opinion, you know not all of these people think OoT was the best, it's just the "in" thing to say among the fanbase. Nostalgia for some, popular opinion for others, but OoT isn't the supreme game many say it is. If you think it is, that's fine; just don't go around claiming it if you've never played it through, and don't bash the other GOOD titles because they do something differently than it did.

By the way, the "you" wasn't actually referring to you or any other particular person. Also I always seem to end up ranting in your threads. xD A mark of good conversation material right there.
