So my old laptop had the ability to turn tap click on and off. Sadly the monitor slowly died and ultimately the OS sort of imploded. Not a good combination so I ended up getting an ok one on sale (either back to school sale or black friday).

Tap click was on by default and I was too distracted by how hideous and annoying Windows 8 was that I didn't have the patience to look for how to turn it off. So I went investigating one day and found where I used to turn it on and off on my old computer. Unfortunately, it was just an explanation of what tapping is rather than having an option to turn it off. Poking around the internet just brought me 4 year old posts on other forums where their problem was solved by opening the very window that was so unhelpful to me.

So I figured there are some bright folks here so it might be worth asking. Anyone have any suggestions other than "deal with it" cause I have been and I'm sick of it?

By the way, this is a screenshot of what I've found:

Sorry to bug you, but I got impatient with the lack of replies. Can you tag the current smart tech people? Members have cycled through to the point where I know 3 of the current Locals and that's pushing it.

Local Mods :

Not sure if you guys have any ideas?

I read this thread and thought about it (several times over the past few days, actually), but I came up with nothing.

I will say that Windows 8 is a pain. Microsoft has gone a lot way from the "you can customize this yourself!" to becoming more of an Apple type of OS system where young kids, grandmas, and the technologically in-adept can enjoy but the rest of us secretly hate.

I use windows 8 myself, because I personally found that the speed compensation was just enough for me to enjoy it and I didn't want to go through the trouble of downgrading to Windows 7 on the computer I got with it.

There's quite a few inbuilt system features that I'd really like to alter myself, but online searches reveal nothing. They've intentionally made it harder to customize particular features, which is beyond frustrating.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I am saying that your pain is shared. :/

I this with win 8? or with win 8.1?

I have win 8.1, but not touch-screen compatible. I'm able to just tick that box for Tapping and it will disable it from my touchpad, as seen here:

Is it possible that in your Mouse Properties (top image in your post) that on Buttons tab you have the ClickLock on? and maybe that's the problem?

I'm not sure of the current tech people though

tRIUNE :

Click lock wasn't the issue. I poked around a windows forum and the most I found were people saying how to do it if there was a check box next to tapping, but also someone who suggested reducing the sensitivity (which I just changed to the lowest possible setting). Possibly worth noting that mine is ELAN, while yours is Synaptics. Pretty sure my old laptop used Synaptics so that could be part of it.
