Would it be rude for me to tell my professor this? How can it be expressed politely?

So I have a current professor who I've also had a class with a year and a half ago (Fall 2013). I have him for a different class now, but both of which are for my major. He assigned my class and I an assignment to go his favorite church and do a paper for him in 2013. Now he's doing this again, and honestly, I don't want to go again.

He already gave us (my CURRENT class) the research prompt/questions and I feel as if I can answer them in a paper, in enough detail to NOT have to go again. I took good notes a year and a half ago and I remember the event very well.

I liked the event, but I just don't want to go this time because I have other classes and obligations (a sports team, a job and other family members to care for) and I just don't think I'll have enough time to go again. I did not have so much on my plate a year and a half ago.

Just the thought that he'll probably make me go again stresses me out, due to time.

So how can I politely tell my professor that I don't want to go again, I remember enough from last time to write my paper, and that I WILL STILL do my paper?

I don't really want to just pass the Time Sign Up sheet for the event along to the next person without signing because it may raise questions.

If I honestly cannot tell him this, fine, I'll try to move over, make time, and go again.

Well I have not been to college I'm currently in the 9th grade but if it is not required and you already know everything then it would be best if you go and tell him that you already know the material to do a good paper and if he agrees then your good if not well at least you tried and then you will know whether you you can choose to go or if it is mandatory to go. Also your question if it would be rude it would not because the term rude means to be offensively impolite or I'll mannered in how you talk or do things so I don't think he will get offended by you saying this I hope I helped you sir.

I have yet to go to college, but I know that most teachers should be able to understand student situations as long as tehy are explained in a manner that they understand and they don't think that one has any underhanded plans. If you tell your professor some of the reasons why you cannot attend I believe that you would be able to convince him to at least let you use your notes from half a year ago.

Just tell him exactly what you said. I'm sure he will understand.

You just answered your own question. Pretty much everything you told us, you can tell him. Be polite, and give him the reason's you'd rather not go.

He may let you skip it... or he may insist you go, so be prepared for either possibility.

If the directions are to go to the church, you go to the church.  A year and a half can change things and you may take away something new or talk to someone new or have a new experience.  You're also different compared to 1.5 years ago and maybe the experience will be different and exciting and new.

If he assigns and makes attendance mandatory, it's mandatory.  You go.  I have to go to meetings and places again and again and I don't like it but it's the directions for my job.

Go, take notes, do the thing again, and write a good paper on it.  You can even influence your grade by saying, "The last time I was there I noticed A, B, and C.  This time I saw it differently.  I saw D, E, and F."

That would bump your grade nicely.  It's always dangerous to upset a teacher.  It's always safe to pump up their egos.  It's called playing the game.
