My predictions and my favorites: (Note, among other movies, I have no seen the Imitation Game (yet) and Selma).
Best Picture:
Prediction - Boyhood (unfortunately), if not, then Birdman
Personal Choice - Of the nominees, The Grand Budapest Hotel would be my favorite. I think Boyhood was a very cool concept and well done, but was it really the BEST movie out of the nominees?
Actor:
Prediction - Obviously Eddie Redmayne (Theory of everything)
Personal Choice - While I didn't love the movie, I think Bradley Cooper did awesome in his role, and pretty much carried the movie American Sniper. I also did like Eddie Redmayne, and Steve Carell (Foxcatcher). It'll go to Redmayne because he had to play a progressive disease, but not film it in chronological order... hard stuff.
Actress:
Prediction - Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), though I've only seen that movie and The Theory of Everything on that nominee list.
Personal Choice - Definitely Rosamund Pike; she was the perfection of acting, in my opinion.
Supporting Actor:
Prediction - JK Simmons (Whiplash)
Personal Choice - JK Simmons did one of my favorite performances of the year, period. He made the whole movie.
Supporting Actress:
Prediction - Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) will win because she had to come back to her rold once every year and keep her character
Personal Choice - Patricia Arquette, I guess. I didn't really love any other the nomenees to be honest, though I didn't see Wild or The Immitation game.
Animated: (I haven't seen Song of the Sea yet)
Prediction - Big Hero 6, but maybe Dragon 2
Personal Choice - Tale of Princess Kaguya was such a good emotional movie, but not really a kids movie (it was 2h20min long, for example), and I really don't think it has any chance of winning.
Cinematography:
Prediction - Birdman
Personal Choice - Birdman. To me, it's the obvious choice, I mean to film practically the whole thing in a few takes takes extreme precision by the director and cinematographer, it's really mind boggling.
Costume Design: (I haven't seen Inherent Vice and Mr. Turner)
Prediction - The Grand Budapest Hotel
Personal Choice - I think Budapest Hotel had really well done and interesting costume design. It's not simply for "immersion" like other movies, it actually really is a part of the characters.
Directing:
Prediction - Birdman
Personal Choice - I think the skill needed to coordinate Birdman is really amazing, and it all runs seamlessly. Amazing.
Documentaries: I haven't seen any.
Film Editing:
Prediction - Boyhood
Personal Choice - Obviously Boyhood has the most award-able editing, though American Sniper did a good job too.
Foreign Language:
I've only seen Ida, but thought it was very good, and I think it has a chance at winning.
Makeup & Hairstyling:
Prediction - Foxcatcher
Personal Choice - I'm fine with Foxcatcher winning for turning Steve Carell into a terrifying creep, but I think I would rather see Budapest Hotel win a little.
Original Score:
Prediction - Alexandre Desplait (The Grand Budapest Hotel)
Personal Choice - Budapest Hotel had a really interesting score, not "typical". Same with Hans Zimmer (Interstellar), though I thought it was a tad annoying, and not his best; still liked it.
Original Song: I haven't really listened to them.
Production Design:
Prediction - The Grand Budapest Hotel
Personal Choice - I think any Wes Anderson film has great production design, though I think Interstellar was well done too.
Short films: I haven't seen any.
Sound Editing:
Prediction - Interstellar
Personal Choice - Interstellar made some very tripy interesting sounds.
Sound Mixing:
Prediction - American Sniper
Personal Choice - American Sniper had a bunch of stuff going on all at once, explosions, gun shots, yells, all if great 7.1 sound, and it was all extremely unnoticeable, which is what you want.
Visual Effects:
Prediction - Planet of the Apes (I think, I'm not great with this category actually)
Personal Choice - X-Men, I don't know why, I thought it was very interesting, and well done.
Adapted Screenplay:
Prediction - The Theory of Everything
Personal Choice - The Theory of Everything, it was a cool perspective on the romance of Hawkin's life.
Original Screenplay:
Prediction - Birdman or Boyhood
Personal Choice - I think Budapest Hotel had the most interesting and original screenplay by far, though I would be also happy if Birdman won. My predictions and my favorites: (Note, among other movies, I have no seen the Imitation Game (yet) and Selma).
