Spoilers ahead, so beware.

In the Zelda, Twilight Princess. Gannondorf is executed for his evil deeds. Ones he performed as a thief.

"He was known as a demon thief, an
evil-magic wielder renowned for
his ruthlessness..."

However, as the cutscene of the Sages execution of proceeds, one thing is not made clear.

How Gannondorf obtained the Triforce!

In the game, Gannondorf is stabbed, and the sages believe that their job is done, but the ancient relic begins to appear on the back of his hands, and Gannondorf. . . goes for blood. Killing one of the sages, and getting sucked into the Twilight Realm. It eventually leads up to the events of Twilight Princess.

But how did Gannondorf get ahold of the Triforce?

This is something, I've never quite been able to answer.

It's as if the god's just GAVE it too him as he was being executed.

OR he obtained it some other way before the execution and we didn't see it until after he took the mortal wound.

Furthermore. Gannondorf doesn't exactly die at the end of TP, suffering a similar wound, in the same place, only this one coming from the Master Sword, the blade of evil's bane. He shuts his eyes, and then has that vision of Zant, but even after that, he's still standing, and speaks to Zelda and Link.

During the cutscene in which the Sages attempt to execute Gannon, When the triforce lights up on the back of his hands. . . the sages say:

"By some divine prank, he, too,
had been blessed with the chosen
power of the gods."

It appears to me, he just. . . . somehow divinely was given it with no explanation.

But how? A goddess?

Link and Zelda have their pieces as well. . .

Even though the triforce was placed safely in the sacred realm. . .

It was like he was just Given it.

How then. . . .

Perhaps, as Gannondorf claimed, he had "The kind of absolute power that
those chosen by the gods wield." And was chosen divinely. . .

As a test between the goddesses. . . . the three. . .

To see who should rule this fair land. . .

And take an relic of. . .

Their power.

One Triforce piece for each goddess. . .

And one is a traitor.

Or was this. . .

An agreement. . . ?

Sword legion : Here's what I always reasoned.

The execution took place long before Twilight Princess. If you take a look at the Zelda Timeline; Twilight Princess takes place in the Child Timeline. Meaning Link goes back in time and tells the king of Hyrule about Ganondorf's plan, stopping the events of Adult Link's time from happening. I say that this execution took place sometime after that. And the next who knows how many years he spent drifting in Twilight until he happens upon Zant.
I do notice there's a few holes in there now...

I like your idea also. Mainly because in Ocarina of Time, when the Triforce split into Zelda, Link, and Gannondorf, it seems that it also resided in their descendants also. Every generation since then had the Triforce. Not only that, but with Demise's promise at the end of Skyward Sword that his hatred will reincarnate itself also. It may be that Ganondorf is set up to always get the Triforce of Power, as long as he's in that world (Explaining why Yuga had it once. Although he could be related to Ganondorf somehow...).

Well, those are rambles on my reasoning. I'm glad someone else questions things like this.

A user of this :

Yes, that is probably so.

I wonder if Something like the events of Ocarina of Time did happen though, even on the alternate timeline. As in, Gannondorf somehow got into the Sacred realm and touched the Triforce.

However, that would then make the Sacred Realm reflect the character of his heart, and it would become the Dark World. However, when we see the Sacred realm. . . . it doesn't look like the Dark World. In fact, it's a land of eternal light that remains completely untouched.

Where do we see the Sacred Realm?

In the Temple of Time.

Once you get inside the dungeon, (by entering the very same window Navi entered after leaving Link) Look out some of the window.

A land of glowing gold.

I don't think Gannondorf has come here yet, but who knows.

Maybe this dungeon actually housed the Triforce and Gannon came here ages ago and took it.

And yet the Triforce is said to reside atop the Pyramid of Power. (located in the same place as Hyrule Castle. . .).

Ugh.

Connecting Zelda games is so confusing.

But I think we're getting somewhere. (Mah boi dat is. ) XD

This is a good thread, unfortunately I can't really properly give a good reply since I have only ever beaten TP once, and I remember the scene you are talking about, but to give a good analysis I would have to properly replay the game. I love TP so maybe I should sometime, sorry I couldn't really be in this with you.

This is something that is never really explained in-game, although I do remember hearing this from somewhere. While you can materially find the Triforce, whether by itself or its three components (Skyward Sword proved this), the Triforce can also simply be gifted on a said individual for proving themselves or showing they are worthy to wield its might. Usually, the different incarnations of Link obtain the Triforce of Courage for showing their bravery throughout the course of the game.

Now the question is:

WHAT THE HECK WHERE THEY THINKING?

Maybe there should be a fourth goddess and a Triforce piece to represent common sense.
