Do you prefer a custom built or store bought PC

I've had my last 2 PC's customized by a third party and my laptop as well. There came a point when I just decided that without customization the machine simply wouldn't run well enough. While I have done some modifications after the fact, I find that now with the customizations I'm much happier for much longer.

Custom built is always better for anything that's not a portable (laptop, netbook, etc).
Main problems buying ready built are that you don't know the parts (they are often labeled as the manufacturers company, but often are generic rubbish), can't always upgrade due to the fact that the systems are built at their maximum spec for the board, have obscure parts that are hard to replace, they come loaded down with alot of shovelware and trial rubbish and often you can build a PC equal or better for the same price (if you know where to look).
Anything you build yourself is nearly always going to be the way you want it instead of the way that the PC company wants it.

I agree with DH, customs are better also because they can be cheaper than the store bought and be better. Unless you just upgrade in a computer what you want, it's more. I upgraded everything in my laptop Studio 17 Dell.

I think the whole pre-built thing is just a matter of convenience. You're only paying for that.

Customization might take some work but it's definitely a better option.
