mario102 :  Actually, I totally missed that last part by accident. Thanks, but there are actually quite a few of us here. haha.  rcarter2 and play4fun are just two of them, and they're quite well known! They're also even younger than I am (which makes me feel old... blah!)

Yes, I'm 27.

Some of the teachers here give packets over the summer. I always wanted to but never got around to making any in the chaos of closing the school years.  Plus, I know it wouldn't do any good anyways, since kids just wouldn't do them and then start the year with a flunking grade.... because yes.. they are THAT stubborn..

Singelli : I feel that if a packet is given over the summer, it shouldn't be collected. Now, let's say I'm a teacher. *coughs*

If they (my students) don't want to a summer packet, they shouldn't cry when they don't remember something! *exiting teacher mode* *sneezes*

See, I can remember most of the stuff, and I'm pretty advanced for my age (I'm in the gifted program at my school), so I don't want to do the summer packet because I can pretty much remember what I've learned throughout the school year. Now I understand that not everyone is gifted, but, I feel that it's just not right. The point of break is to get away from school, but then you get a summer packet. So basically, you are at school almost every single day of your life. That, is just not cool, my friend.

Also, I do know rcarter2. Very nice.

I really (and I mean REALLY) hate it when teachers give us more homework to do when we're supposed to have a break. Every student needs a break. Giving students extra work over these breaks feels like torturing. There's this one period of time that is supposed to be entirely school-less and we have to work during that period. Also, yes, you could say that the extra homework keeps us still prepared, but I have two counter-arguments:

a) Who actually does their homework in the middle of the break instead of at the end?

b) The students are not idiots. They know that they have to review stuff (and they will). They don't have to do extra work.

Well, I better go do my homework now... *sighs*

Well like the word "break" implies, the spring/christmas breaks should be times where students can relax from school. I like to do things on my break but I find it something very annoying when I have to remember that I have have homework to do because that is the last thing that I want to do on break time. I don't mind doing other extra curriculars such as my sport or mock trial but when it comes to school work I feel a break is most effective. When teachers give me a lot of homework over the break I most likely don't do it or if I do I end up dividing the homework with a couple other friends so that we don't have to do it all (Or I find the answers online if that option is available). I am not saying that the things that I just mentioned are the right thing to do, however, I don't feel that teachers giving homework over the break is the right thing to do. Especially when it is a lot more homework than one would normally have over the weekend. Teachers should understand that a vacation is something not to be messed with since many people go out to many other places and some only have time to do the homework the returning sunday before school starts again. I am totally against homework being assigned over breaks and I hope teachers get the clue that most students won't try to do it.

I always felt this way when I was in school, and I still feel the same way today, I think that students should not get homework over winter or spring break because those breaks are meant to be actual breaks from school where you don't have to worry about homework, just like summer vacation.

I recently got a ton of homework to do over the break which I have yet to start. For my English class, I have to do a 4 page paper which is due a week after we come back, and I have to do another draft of my last paper the day we come back. I also have to do a 2 page paper on sports stadiums in NYC, so just in papers alone, I have about 6 to 8 pages, and I have to answer questions for two classes.

This is only a community college and I have more homework than the spring break last year at a university, and I really hate homework during breaks in general.

I don't think a 'ton' of extra work to do is a good idea, no. But perhaps a few worksheets or the like, something that can be completed quickly (if they will sit down and DO it)  and give just enough to keep students' minds going back over the material already covered? Yeah, I agree with that, just from my own experience.  Little things like that give you a leg up when you return, so days don't have to be spent reviewing everything again because your brain said bye over breaks. *alliteration go*

I have homework to do over breaks sometimes. I really hate that I have to do some type of work on a "break" when it should be used for just that, a break. However, I do believe that it does help keep information in my head. If I do a little bit each day, it is always fresh in my mind, and when I go back to school, it isn't that hard to remember. Summer vacation is usually boring for me. Sometimes I will do a little bit of work to brush up on something that I do not know or didn't understand very well in the first place. Most of the time, I do not though. School is so much stress now, than what it used to be long ago. When I come home, I want to leave school at school. I'd rather relax, study a little basics, and just not worry over so much. Especially on a break.

Ah, homework. The bane of my happiness in the weekends.

Currently, I'm being bogged down with a 3-page essay (due tomorrow =_=) about a historical building I hardly know anything about, a project about the said thing, and some other assignments from a variety of classes. The project was assigned about a month ago, but my parents didn't have the time to purchases supplies for my project and other assignments made no room for me to work on the essay. Combined with procrastination, it stresses me out and often leaves me to do the majority of the work on Sunday.

The weekend is a small break from school, and assigning students a load of homework to do simply ruins the purpose of it.
Break? "Here, have a project and some other busy work that probably isn't going to help you a lot." Sure, the work is used to refresh our minds, but we do know to review our notes.
