The Lost Tales of the Ancients

By Bryant Lennex "Brandon Phantom" "Mabokun7"

(edited and updated by author to add maturity)

Prologue
When you hear of ancient peoples or ancient races you think of old run down ruins or shadows of a civilization. These are merely the leftovers of their societies and the ghosts of their culture. When these civilizations "thrived", the were said to possess advanced knowledge. This included medicine culture agriculture and society. If this is true how is it that they all died out? In the following pages, you will discover that the door of the century can lead to all of the answers.

Chapter One

"Don't go in there Brandon I don't believe it is safe."

The sounds of his Love's parting words filled his head echoing between his mind and his ears. The fact the he, Brandon Phantom, could be swayed to avoid this dank hole in the center of the greatest city in the world. Atlantis. It was unthinkable because he always had to explore new places he had never seen before. He had cheated Death time and time again and wouldn't be afraid of a little ghost story used to scare children into doing what they are told. Alas as the tunnel under the city grew longer darer and colder he wished he would have at least brought Kosenjou Shuniji his faithful sword, with him. Nevertheless, the tunnel had already made many twists and turns and was constructed with so many passages it was too late to turn back. Even though he remembered his exact steps the entrance was shut and sealed and couldn't open without the help of the Rod of Cultun. Cultun was an ancient atlantean overlord who ruled over all he saw and mapmaker of the lands he ruled. With the rod he could not only find the way back but he could find his way to the land below without being captured by the Crystal Guardians, ancient protectors of the floating isle of Atlantis. The old tales spoke of a Crystal Guardian so powerful he was banished to the very tunnels in which Brandon now patrolled. This guardian was none other than Cultun Overlord of Atlantis and ruler of the planet Earth. Soon Brandon began to see a light ahead. Breaking out into a run, he hoped that this was the chamber that housed the rod. Upon entering the cavern he saw "The First Riddle of the Ancients" as was inscribed above the writing.

"To see the path you have the key
or else journey to the sea
If key you seek then listen close
your goal will keep you on your toes."

"What could this mean? What could possibly keep me on my toes?"

In a flash his question was answered. The ground began to quake and fall down into darkness. In an instant the floor had fallen free and in its place tall spires, that extended up from the great abyss that was revealed, rose to the point where the floor once stood.

"Oh. So that is what the riddle meant by 'on your toes".

He hops from spire to spire slowly and surely to avoid falling and he made it to the other side of the pit. The door with the riddle vanished leaving a gaping hole in the stone wall

"One down six more to go."

He continues down the maze. As he passed it the door reappeared and another rumbling sound was heard as the previous room restored itself. It staggered his imagination to try and understand the magic or technology that could to it. To him both were one in the same.

Up in the sunlight a blond girl wearing a red toga walked back to the outskirts of the city.

"Don't Go in there Brandon I don't believe it is safe!"

"Don't worry I'll be fine you know I can regenerate even if I receive a fatal wound"

This was the last conversation she had with the greatest travelling Hero Atlantis had ever seen. Reverberating on her mind was the last thing anyone had heard of the ones who travel to the 'Pit of Cultun'. Time and time again these words, minus the regenerates from fatal wounds part, were proven wrong as bodies of said travelers were found with unbelievable yet unmistakable injuries resulting in their deaths.

"Its only a matter of time before he is found just like the last one", the disembodied voice of the abyss said to the girl.

"DON'T SAY THAT! He has to come out alive he promised."

"Sure,he has to come back to marry you Eleesha."

"Quit he is only a friend!" Eleesha exclaims her face flushed and she looked down quietly thinking so that the voice of the abyss couldn't hear

"But I hope he does, I love him." This is a difficult time for Eleesha. Her heart wants her and Brandon to be together but she has doubts if he loves her.

"Abby may be right" she thinks

"After all the under city is forbidden for a reason."

The time has come for the annual festival of worship. The gods of Atlantis are to be pleased by an offering of the life-force of he Atlantean society used over the last year.

"Unusual but fair offering since they are granted longevity." Eleesha mentioned.

"Heh maybe we should give our entire life to the gods" Abyssal remarked with a wry laugh sarcasm and revulsion.

"Now Abby we are guests and temporary members of this society, therefore we must respect the traditions of this place no matter how strange they are."

"Yeah yeah yeah just get it over with."

But as Abyssal said this the festival was interrupted

"PEOPLE OF ATLANTIS BRING YOUR ATTENTION TO ME!" the High Master proclaimed as he stepped forward on top of the temple. "The time for redemption is ended the gods are pleased as is. They ask we save our offering in preparation for the upcoming battle with the dragon warrior and his forces."

the crowd murmurs and sounds worried some sound confused. Eleesha's eyes widen with shock

"This can't be good"

To be continued in Chapter Two.

Wow.. you retyped all of that?!?  I'm impressed!  (I really don' know why your post wouldn't copy paste... that's so unusual, and I'm very sorry for that.    )

I like your little comment about 'editing and updating' for maturity. Does that mean that as you typed it up here from the original source, you re-wrote bits to improve it?

If so, maybe retyping it wasn't such a waste after all!

I didn't read EVERY word because I'm running off 3 hours of sleep and have a deadline today that I'm super stressed about.

However, I wanted to say that from what I did see and read... this looks AWESOME!  You have so much talent as a writer!  Often when people post things here there is a great lack of detail, and, dialogue runs together, and the grammar is detestable.  It's hard to read through something like that because it doesn't flow well.

Yours on the other hand does... IT flows very, very well.  GREAT job. I'm excited to read this next week after my last deadline on Monday.  (The only ting I noticed... which you might have a reason for, is that you capitalize a few nouns... like Love, and Death?  Is this done intentionally, to personify the ideas?)

This is the original chapter one and part of the original chapter two combined only half the revised chapter one was typed out. I typed it over from a forum I posted the original on and I wrote this as a sophomore in high school I changed a few things and added some things to fill in gaps I left in my youth. There is about 3X as much left to type chapter three is short and chapter four is unfinished. I plan to transcribe the rest and even add on to it in the future

the capital love is an accident the capital death is personified it is literally Death from Castlevania he is talking about.

Lost tales of the ancients continued.

It is important at this point to explain that the following is not in the story nor did I ever intend to include it. This is a back story to Brandon and his sword.

Brandon Phantom later renamed Brandon Maboroshi is an artificial chimera. He was born a chimera and artificially enhanced with other DNA to make him stronger. This experimentation was performed by his fallen angel father. He was born Sayian, Yakashini vampire (from Christopher pike the last vampire),and fallen angel. His father added Gallefreyian with no result except the ability control autonomic functions  retain knowledge and guide energy patterns foreign to the body. Kryptonian which did nothing except remove his resistance to magic giving him a weakness to it and multiple demons in an attempt to give him another source of power to draw upon. He was seen as a failure and sealed in a cryotube in 1990 only to wake up 100 years later in a post apocalyptic reality. Then his life follows similar events to the game Crystalis except the hero didn't wake up and Brandon became the hero in this alternate reality. After destroying the flying tower he discovered a portal in time and space that sent in into another reality in the past where he forged his blade from a piece of his soul.

Kosenjou shuniji literally translates to ancient battlefield, primary rainbow i used it to say rainbow of ancient battlefield which would translate to Kosenjou no Shuniji it was forged form the ruined blade that destroyed the tower and a piece of Brandon's soul. His blood was used to temper and bid the soul fragment to the blade and it became lie a vampire gaining strength from draining abilities from those it cuts. It gained a will of its own and gained a consciousness free to think and speak. In this story its powers are barely realized and limited to the powers of the four swords that form the Crystalis and the ability to generate sound and light in many forms

Chapter One cont.

Explosions raged in the skies above the floating isle of Atlantis.  The battle,it seemed, had been going on forever. The Dragon Warrior attacked the continent the hour after the High Master finished his speech with an army of dragons and dragon riders. Mixed in between were three metal blimps all metallic blue and made of metals. They had no visible means of propulsion and the silence from them was eerie. Smaller younger dragons had riders while older powerful dragons flew alone. There were dragons of every color and they either fired fire bombs from their nostrils or streams of liquid flame from their mouths. Screams of terror flooded the city when the first strike rained down from the gathering clouds, The Dragon Warrior had come at last.

While running through the destroyed city to find another crystal that wasn't destroyed Eleesha fell over a wounded Soldier of Atlantis. Both his legs were burnt off at the hip and he was in shock.

"Dear child, will I ever walk again?"

With tears of pain in her eyes she said in a voice wrought with despair, for she felt the pain of other as if it were her own,

"Yes my friend you will walk again." With that the soldiers pain was gone and he passed from his eternal life, his crystal destroyed.

"Why did you lie to him Eleesha?" asked the abyssal voice. It was clear it disagreed with Eleesha's actions but couldn't change them.

"The man was near death indeed he will walk again with his own gods, but for now he is at peace."

"Humph if it was me I would not have only told him the truth about where he was going after death but I would have ended his misery right there."

"That is what separates us from true communion Abby. Your lust for destruction or my unnatural Kindness to strangers." replies Eleesha with a tone of sadness. "Either way we have to find another crystal for my plan to end the battle to work."

"What makes you think I would want to commune with a goody-goody like you anyways?" Abby retorted with a growl.

"Because you need a body to exist so you don't fade away like you never existed"

Streaking through the city too fast to be seen as anything but a blur Eleesha find their way to an armory that had been made into a makeshift triage and healing center. Desperately searching the bodies of those who could not be healed she searched for an undamaged crystal. The room was filled with moans of pain and the sounds of accelerated healing. Those who could be healed left right away while the others were made as comfortable as possible for their end. Eleesha spotted a dead boy who's crystal had yet to pass to someone else or burn out and she took it with a whoop of joy and dashed out of the armory running to the center of the main ceremonial grounds in the middle of the palace court yard.

"now we can put an end to this war." she says with a lighter tone to her voice

"YAWN" Abby replies "just wake me up when it is over. Impudent little whelp"

When Eleesha reached the center of not only the city the continent itself she glowed with her own inner power and the crystals glow with added energy. She combined the crystals and they begin to resonate with an energy build up of sky blue light.Hidden in the smoke of darkness the Dragon Warrior is exposed and Eleesha attacks on reflex aiming the burst of power at the dark armored man. He jumps to the side and knocks the crystals away from her and they fall separated and the glowing returns to a normal level. Eleesha begins the fight of her life for the safety of everyone everywhere and most importantly for the one she loves most.

Chapter two

(edited from original to add detail and fill gaps in the story line. I was kinda lazy with my writing as a teen and didn't write down all my thoughts. I remembered what I was thinking at the time and decided to put these thoughts and ideas down to enrich the story.)

After completing the first of his seven tasks that are needed to open the final chamber and seize the Rod of Cultun Brandon dashes through the maze of tunnels leaving tracers of his energy to make sure his senses are guiding him in the right direction. Twice he came across one of these tracers one of the turns he took led him onto a path that turned him into a circle by design. Before he had time to stop and calmly find his path there was a tremor form above. Dust dirt and a little debris fell down and the sound of explosions penetrated the thick layers between him and the surface.

"what is going on here? There aren't earthquakes in the sky. Unless there is a battle going on... but, these are peaceful people who could they be fighting?" he asks himself out loud and searches his rather large memory for information on this era. The only thing that could come to mind was the Dragon Warrior ruling the world below in Cultun's absence this didn't make sense to him unless the Dragon Warrior found a way to make dragons fly.

"....tom Phantom the city is under attack hurry and get your butt back up here or I will come down there and destroy this entire land to get you. " a faint echoing in his mind as a weak telepathic signal came in. It was the Voice of The Abyss, a remnant of one of Eleesha's greatest enemies permanently locked in her mind as a reminder of the lives Eleesha took.

"Its too late I'm already too deep to get out without the Rod. I will summon Inglet and he will do his best to help you." Brandon replied with a stronger signal then he ever attempted before it cut through and almost gave him a headache telepathy was new to him and he wasn't used to using it. Inglet the formless shape-shifter from a world of darkness was sleeping in a dark part of the outer ruins dotting the edges of the floating land. Coming form a dimension of darkness he cannot sustain his form in a world with light and becomes a gas a shadow or even with effort a liquid.  the battle woke him from his slumber and he immediately sought a host in this world to be able to interact with its denizens. He found a dead soldier and went into his body standing up and walking to find something stronger. He caught the telepathic messages and knew what he had to do and knew his punishment for any attempt to possess any allies against the enemy.

"Mistress Eleesha where are you? I'm on my way to help." the response was Abby and sounds of a fierce battle swords clashing Eleesha grunting and the Dragon Warrior laughing insanely.

"Hurry up and get here you stubborn lout we are at the center of the city and he is too strong for us." the haze of Eleesha's unconsciousness cut the connection and Inglet left the body to fly into a dragon and use it to get to Eleesha.  its body turned from a reddish green to a purple black the form was distorted and changed to be more human like and where its body wouldn't shift was burst through as Inglet's true form replaced it. He gained the dragon's power and increased it with his own and flashed to the center of the city. When he got there he saw the dragon lord flying to a massive dirigible shaped like a dragon with Eleesha's unconscious body over his shoulder. Inglet now knew that this attack was revenge against Brandon and Eleesha for abandoning him in his quest to defeat the Dragon Lords. Something was different. There was a dark power at work here dragons being able to fly again after a millennium meant their ancient powers were restored and only the Demon Lord who took them away in the first place could do that. Inglet took off in flight to attack the enemy forces in the sky to help even things up for the ground troops.

"They will pay for this."
