I will attempt to put my reviewing skills to the ultimate test.
The Hunger Games, a well received Action, Adventure, Thriller book, written by Suzanne Collins is beginning to pick up a larger following. The book may seem dark, but it must be viewed in the entire series, for if it isn't, it is gruesome. The book portrays a realistic tone of War, suffering, and pain felt by those who are directly, or indirectly involved in conflict. Suzanne Collins' father was a soldier, so she understood some of the effects war has on a family. She used this to great effect in her writing.
Suzanne Collins has a great writing style. While simple, it's not boring. Her writing style appeals to many, because of its simplicity. I was easily hooked and loved every page she wrote. The book gets more exciting with each page turned, this makes it a great novel. I give it a 10/10 for great writing.
Story: The story of the book is well known, every year there is the "hunger games." These brutal fights to the death are put in place to keep the districts divided. President Snow is the much hated leader of Panem, and Katniss Everdeen must fight in place of her sister in one of these brutal "games." The story is better than that, but that is how I would summarize it in a few short sentences. The book really was done well. The story is written with great detail, each picture she paints can be seen in your mind, without seeing the movies. Many books seem to focus on descriptive words, or just colorful dialogue, but those books lose their interest very easily. This book is not part of that category. I enjoy this, because it is a story driven book. If it weren't driven by story, I would have tossed the book in the fire and regretted the purchase, but I am so glad that it wasn't one of those. I give the story an 8/10, because it is gruesome at parts, and is not terrible, but it has it's parts that are gross.
Length: Many books are short now days, but I find that if it is too short, it gets annoying to start. If a book costs $10 I want $10 of reading material. That's just the way it is. The book seems like a very good length, right in between too long and too short, right where every book belongs. This makes it much more fun to read, because it keeps it's value, but it's content is good. The material doesn't feel as though it were stretched out, but it doesn't feel too rushed either. This makes the book good! I give it a 10/10.
Reception: The book was well received. It has become one of the top selling books. Divergent, Hunger Games, and Ender's Game have been some of the best selling books in the past few years since release. Since the movies for each book respectively, their sales got a big boost. The hunger games, in my opinion, is one of the better selling books in the ones mentioned earlier. I would say that it is VERY well received.
Overall: It is one of the best books I have read, since the Lord of the Rings. It has become popular, and even has generated it's own movie series. I would give the book a high 9.5/10, because of it's reception, story, length and many other things that make this book one of the best in my library!
