I've seen plenty of speculation about the mini black mages being Vivi's son & how could they have been created with the mist gone....

Here's my theory:

They're clones. Vivi himself was made of mist & they were basically making clones during the game so Vivi decided to make better quality clones of himself to live on using himself as the source of mist. He died making the clones. As for the Vivi's being his sons.... Look at Jango & Boba Fett. Boba was a clone of Jango but he still considered Jango to be his father & Jango considered Boba to be his son.


So what are everyone's thoughts on this theory?

Surgiac :  I can't speak about Vivi (I haven't played IX yet), but I can speak of Jango and Boba, of course they would build a father-son relationship, it's totally possible. One is younger than the other by an entire generation and so has to relearn everything the older one knows, or learn as much as possible, he is what is called a son-clone. The Chrono Trigger series for SNES and PlayStation (both parts) had a similar pairing with Princess Schala and her daughter-clone she created last-minute before disappearing that was named Kid whom featured prominently in the second game.
