She keeps reading my text messages, but not replying, even when I ask her a question. This has happened more than once. Also, she won't seem to follow me back on Tumblr either.....

Funny thing is, her best friend is the opposite. Her best friend follows me on Instagram and likes half the things I post.

So, what can be up here? I never did or said anything negative to either of them.

I know she reads them because we both have iPhones.

It could be a case of that person not wanting to talk to you, or doesn't really see you as much of a friend as you see them.

Or it could be a case of them being busy. Or not using Tumblr that much. Or using it so much that she has hundreds of follow requests or whatever they do on the Tumblr.

Sometimes, no matter what you do, you aren't going to get a reaction out of people.

It's possible? Either way, I don't think it matters.

I find it's too bothersome to worry about someone ignoring my messages and what it means. I prefer to talk to people who talk back.

No point forcing it if they don't have that mutual interest in connecting.

It could be the person is busy, I do it a lot with my friends since college and everything takes up so much time. It's basically prioritizing what is the most important in that person's life, remember one thing it ain't personal just business. If you remember that it won't bother you that much, also life is too short to get worried over something like that, go talk with another friend, girl, dog, anything, and if she ain't busy and she realizes that you ain't talking to her anymore I know she will start chiming in, because if you do that enough subconsciously she will get used to it, almost commonplace in her head to hear that ringtone, vibration, or whatever of your message, and if you stop abruptly that won't register to well with her, and she will write back to you. At least something like a hey or something like that. After that then really you have to decide on what you want to do with that situation.  

Slightly unrelated, but I absolutely hate the fact that messages tell you when somebody has read them. Both with Facebook and iPhones. At least with Facebook you can mark as unread. I haven't found a way to mark as unread with the iPhone.

There are many reasons for you to not want someone to know whether you've read their message or not. There are times when someone will message me for whatever reason, and I just need some time to think of how I want to respond. I don't want any drama to ensure simply because they see that I've read it, when I haven't had the time to think of a response. Or perhaps I'm busy, and no matter how important the message is, I've got bigger things that need to be handled at that moment.

And with the way that the iPhone works, sometimes it will automatically switch you to the message when you unlock your phone.

It's just so frustrating.

So I'm completely biased in saying this, but I don't think seeing that the message is "read" should mean anything. Though I think since she's ignoring you in other ways, legacyme3's on the dot.

Either or could be possible. Either them being too busy, or them just not being a big fan of talking to people.

I don't like to assume things though, so it's also just as possible that person just doesn't want to talk to you in specific *shrug*

It could be a couple of different things.

My friend did this through laziness.
I told him I wasnt going to chase him for replys anymore and stopped inviting him out.
He replies now.

Some people are just jerks about this.

All you really have to do is keep trying. Try asking them specific questions and hope they respond.

And, would you mind sharing your instagram?

Like others said in this thread before, sometimes people are too busy to respond. Sometimes it depends on the length of the message or what it says. Sometimes the person doesn't even receive the message. Also, sometimes the person you're messaging doesn't have anything to say. My situation is probably common: if I send a short message, I usually get a response right away, but if I send a long message, I usually get a response 15+ minutes later, even if the message would take the person a minute to read. And sometimes I don't get a response no matter how long my text is or what it says.

It seems that this is what keeps happening to me: One of my friends texts a lot of people, so my texts probably get pushed down to the bottom of her page a lot, and if she doesn't see them, the people who most recently texted her keep texting her and she continues responding to them. I think that's why sometimes she never responds to a text I sent her. Fortunately, on my phone, I can't tell if someone read my messages or not.

If someone doesn't respond to a text I sent, sometime later (depending on what's going on), I re-type it and send it again, but this time saying "sorry if you saw this when I sent it the first time." After 2 or 3 attempts, I get a response.
