Ok, so I've been playing Smash since Melee, and this is something that I've always wondered: do people like to stick with one main or switch around a lot?

I tended to play Link in Melee and Brawl, But I find myself switching around a lot more in Smash 4 (Shulk, Zero Suit Samus and Link are prominent choices for me, for those curious).

If you main one character specifically, is there anything special about that character that you love so much that everyone else in the cast seems inferior? Do you ever get tired of that character?

I don't own and of the Smash Brothers games but I used to go to my friend's house a lot and play it. We would have a lot of tournaments on it and stuff.

Anyways, we would generally play Brawl and I would usually just play as link. I was pretty good at playing as him. I mainly just chose him because he's my favourite character from any of those games on there. I don't really get tired of him but sometimes I switch to Ganondorf. He's pretty good too.

I use at least half of the characters regularly, however I usually have a couple favorites. Usually the ones that are the most fun.
When playing brawl with a certain group of friends however, I usually pick Snake unless we do teams.

And he's tricky enough that he can be difficult to pin in close range

@MoblinGardens Ah, I see. I remember playing Toon Link in Brawl because he was faster, but I personally prefer regular Link in Melee and Smash 4. I never really used Ganondorf, but I've seen some people who are crazy good with him.

@baileyface544 Hehe, I'd argue that making friends angry was more Mario Party's job. Nah, seriously though, my friend was pretty good with Snake, so he won a lot. And he was really good at trolling us >.>

@dankusolion2 I agree, Marth has been pretty good in all the Smashes since Melee, and he's really good in Smash 4. He's one of my auxiliary characters.

Oh, sorry. I'm still a noob in these forums. Anyway, yea, that's how I tend to be in most other games, but it's different in Smash for some reason. I just like to vary it up, I guess.

I actually... don't like Smash Brothers all that much (the nerve!). But when my brother will convince me to play, I just play as Mr. Game & Watch. Not because I'm old (I'm not that old I remember him!), but he can throw bacon at you as an attack, and well, thats awesome, and delicious.

I'll actually love playing as each and every character. Ganondorf, Meta Knight, Ice Climbers, whoever. All of them are fun as heck to control and that makes it hard for me to even have a main (who, by the way, is Sonic).

So, yes, i prefer to branch off of my main whever i feel like it

Nope. I only use a single character in Brawl. In Melee I switch between Falco, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Mr. Game & Watch, Sheik, and occasionally even Ganondorf. In Brawl I actually like to use random, but if I ever decide to choose a character, it will always be Lucas. In Project M I switch between Falco, Captain Falcon, Lucario, and Lucas. In Smash 4, I switch between Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Sheik, Greninja, and Meta Knight. There are not any games I play as every character like Boxia does (unless you count me choosing random in Brawl).

For me I played Smash since melee and tended to use swordsmen most of the time. I stuck with Link most of the time due to his bombs and spin attack but as another variation of him i used Young Link. I liked the fact that he was more nimble because I felt more in control as it was easier to move and jump and I didn't mind giving up some range for that. In Brawl just the same I used Toon Link but I did grow to like Ike with his awesome smash moves. in the new Smash Bros I still stick with my favorites but I don't mind using characters like Mario, Kirby, or Sonic once in a while.

Hmm...This is all very interesting. There doesn't seem to be a pattern, but most of the you guys/gals here seem to jump around a little. That certainly answers my question. Does anyone here play competitively? Just curious if there is any difference in the way you pick characters compared to everyone else.

I switch around a lot. It kinda' depends on what I feel like playing as. I do play as some characters more, like Ness, Young Link (I play Melee, by the way), Link, Fox, etc. I play better with some characters but I'll play as any character. It really just depends on which character I want to play as.

I tend to switch around alot, I like to play with more obscure characters alot like Wario and Pichu I think it's hilarious if I beat my friend with a weird semi horrible character, and they then spaz, because of the outcome. I also like Mr. Game and Watch. That thing is just so random.
