Can anyone give me a walkthrough or some tips on Harvest Moon 64?

I haven't played this game in probably fifteen years (since sadly I can't get it to emulate properly), so I'm rusty on most of it, but here goes:

-A secret: Look in the tree on your farm (it's by the water and barn) for a surprise that'll help a tiny bit.

-As with all HM games I've played, the cheapest seeds are the most profitable, so go with them at least for the first year (they're all I sell usually).

-Karen loves your dog, so if you want to win her affection, or just make friends, show him to her often (you can actually make her fall in love with you in a single day by showing him to her repeatedly, I'm told. I've never tried this though).

-I can't remember if there's a hothouse expansion available in this one or not, but if there is, get it asap. It's worth it.

-Chickens are probably the best livestock to get for the first year, but buying a single cow for contest's sake isn't a bad idea. If it wins, you get Golden Milk.

-Sheep are a waste of money. Only get one if you want to enter a contest (not sure if there's a sheep contest in HM 64 or not though. Been too long).

-Always buy cows rather than having one of your cows have a calf. In the long run it costs more money to use the miracle potion as you lose several milking days, plus the extra fodder.

-If I remember correctly, if you take on a part time job, regardless of when you show up for work, you lose the rest of your day, accomplish just as much, and make the same amount, so make sure you do everything you want done on the farm or elsewhere before going to the job.


I'm sure I could think of more, but these should be of some help. If you have a particular Bachelorette in mind for marriage, let me know and I might be able to help you with figuring out good gifts for her specifically.
