First, just to clear the air.... please do not post if you have not used a program like this.  I am curious about programs that you purchase and use to stay fit.  That being said... have you tried any?  What did you think about them?  Were they worth the purchase?  What was the hardest / easiest thing about them?  Did you notice yourself getting fitter or losing weight?  What were your end results?  Did you have to quit and have you started over?

There is honestly... a LOT that can be discussed about this.  I've always been curious to see how various programs compare.

My husband bought me TapouT XT two years ago, and I didn't get around to trying it until the following summer.  The program comes with a dozen or so DVDs and each DVD has a special focus.  All of the exercises, though, focus on using body weight to get fit.  This means that you let your body do the work for you, instead of lifting weights or the like.

It also comes with a resistance band, some hand weights, and a leg band.  A calendar tells you which DVD to use each day, and the week consists of 6 workouts and 1 off day.  (Oh, it also comes with 4 bottles of energy supplement spray stuff.)

Anyways.. the program is really, REALLY hard.  I feel a little silly when I try to use it, because I don't understand how all those people move their bodies in the ways that they do!  I can pause, watch carefully, and try to mimic with my own body.. but I'm not even close!  (The main exercise that comes to mind... which absolutely perplexes me... is called the Hell Cat.)  However... the trainer is really, really great at encouraging the viewers.  He sometimes offers alternatives ways to complete the exercises, and doesn't push or sound 'judgemental'.  (I know it's a recording, but I've heard that some trainers on DVDs are just hard to listen to.)

The summer I first tried the program, I got through 21 of the 90 days before life just got too busy.  I lost ten pounds, and I felt stronger and stronger every time I revisited a DVD.  It really had me feeling great about myself.  Some of the exercises were more feasible, though I didn't get everything down completely.  I'm sure I wasn't even that strong, but I knew I was getting -stronger-.

I've started the set again.. this time with the determination to finish it!  Due to chaos at work and OCD tendencies (I want the off day to be on Sunday), I've actually re-done the first day DVD 3 times.    I can feel the burn it builds in my core, however.  Today, I'm going to start Day 1.... ONE more time, simply because I realized it would be most beneficial for me to have the 'off day' on Thursday.  (I spend Thursdays at another woman's house to tutor her daughter and babysit her baby twins.)

I'm a bit excited, because I know I will have time to do Day 2 on Saturday, Day 3 on Sunday... etc etc.

Do you guys have any tips for checking and refining your form?  It's not like I have someone next to me who can look at the DVD, look at me, and then say "If you want to do that exercise, you need to change this....".  I'd really love to get some of the exercises down that confuse me.

Again... I'd love to hear your experiences!  TapouT XT leaves me breathless and sometimes I have to take a break. How crazy are other workout programs?

blasife :  I feel wiped after doing TapouT XT as well, but I'm also not fit at all. I can't even do a pushup.  *sighs *

I wanted to post here though, to mention that I finally understood the Hellcat! They always frustrated me because I just could not understand how the program participants were moving their bodies.... no matter how closely I watched.  Well, I FINALLY got the idea to watch ONLY their hips... and that worked!  I was actually able to move my body in the same way. However, they were so difficult that I was only able to do two. No wonder they are called Hellcats.... LOL

(By the way, I think they are unique to TapouT XT because I looked for them on YouTube and couldn't find any videos.)
