juuldude : You can use a quick Google search or wikipedia, gives a good background scoop on mega man such as his introduction as a Cap com character in Japan in 1987. He became very popular after the continuation of the series and proceeding titles on the Nintendo.

Thus becoming a mascot for cap com. I wasn't much into the TV cartoon series until the Modern version came out, they referred to mega man as rock man as far as I know this was only the character's original name.

I think Japan some times have second names or alternate versions for some of their character and Gaming franchises.

If anyone knows more specific details feel free to correct me here.
