I'm think of purchasing a new computer, so I want to get your opinions. I want a computer that's good for these three things specifically:

1) Run the Internet smoothly, without lag. Seriously, I have had way too many slowdown issues.
2) Do video editing. I have a good program, but again since my computer is the speed of a turtle, I want something that can do it well.
3) Gaming. The reason why I've never been a huge PC gamer is because my computer can't run anything without, yet again, lag.

Do you think Alienware would be a good brand to invest in, or should I look elsewhere?

If you have the time, I suggest learning about making your own computer. You would be able to make it cheaper and to your own specifications.
But to answer the three points:
1. Basically you need 8 GB of RAM (Random Access Memory), a Quad or Dual-Core CPU (Central Processing Unit) and 1 or 2 GB GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). That would fix the problems.
Alienware is a expensive brand but the brand doesn't really matter if you are looking at the specs. The only brand that you should look at is who made the CPU, Intel is expensive but they are better at performance than AMD.

I use a really old Dell Inspiron at the moment. I want to upgrade to a lenovo gaming laptop on Christmas.

What computer you should get also depends on your budget. If you have $1500 - $2000 to spend an alienware is a decent choice, but if you have less than that you should look somewhere else.
^ is right the brand doesn't really matter, but are good for things like a warranty and customer support.

I suggest looking at some of the games or programs that you want to use and look at it's system requirements. 4 GB of ram is more than enough in most games, but some can use up to 6. If you want to multitask and play a game that uses 6 GB of ram you should get a computer with 8 GB of ram. Once you find out what your computer needs then you should start searching.

A new pc wont fix your internet issues.
You either need a better provider, or if you are wireless, consider switching to a weird connection.

Building your own pc is also badly cheaper than building a pre made machine.
