Torchic is my favorite starter, because I like the fire type Pokémons the most and also because I think Torchic is the cutest of them.

Mudkip. Best starter in my opinion. actually its my favorite Pokemon of all time! i mean it evolves into a Water and Ground type Pokemon! WHAT... that means one effective type against Water Pokemon doesn't work! Electric is out! and then from that point on Mudkip is just OP.

I would have to say Mudkip is my favorite. It learns great moves, it has good stats, and it's great in contests.

I didn't bother to read through the other responses, so I might be repeating some points that has been pointed out by others.

Personally, I like the Sceptile family the most. They're the fastest of the three starters and Sceptile has a very wide type coverage, being able to learn Dragon Claw and Iron Tail(even though he's a special attacker, it's still nice that he is able to do so). I also think the Sceptile family looks the coolest. Grovyle and Sceptile literally have blades sticking out of their forearms.

Those are the reasons why I like them the most. Sceptile is also my third favorite Pokemon of all time.

For me the best Hoenn starter would have to be Treecko. Sure he's the grass type but I like the overall design of him whether he's in his first phase or when he's evolved.

gamerforlifeforever2 : I definitely have to  agree with you there. Mudkip, in my opinion, tops all of the other starters, especially when you think about how whichever pokemon you choose, Brendan (my opposite) will have it's stronger adversary. Fire vs Water etc. Not to mention in the elite four, the starter ended up topping the rest of the pokemon in terms of strength when previously, it was weaker.
