Hi guys! This thread is for asking questions and answering other people's questions about anything the Touhou Project, a game series by ZUN. I'll ask the first question if that's ok. Recently I downloaded Touhou: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil on my computer with an English patch. When I started it up Everything worked fine except that it didn't display the menu options and after somehow getting to the 1st level (I figured from the music changing and hearing shooting sounds and such) it still showed a menu screen. One other person asked this on another site and when I tried the one answer that the guy got nothing was different. I tried with Perfect Cherry Blossom and got the same problem. I figure 8 and 9 will do the same so I didn't try those. I can play 1-5 with PC-98 though, as I also figured. Has anyone else had this problem? If so does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks.

thing1 : I'd like to help, but I actually don't know anything about how the PC Touhou games run/work since I've never played them. I'd need to download the game & English patch and test it, and then I'd look into his problem. That could take a while because I already have some other stuff I need to do at vizzed which I'm somewhat procrastinating on doing.

tRIUNE : Like I said, if only Nitori was here. She could have this thing solved already. Too bad she just up and left while I was gone. 

I never got that problem myself, but I'm willing to try to help, so here goes:

>First, what platform are you using (Windows, Mac or Linux)? I know the games were released to work on Windows XP (and they work on my PC, which is Windows 8), but they might not on the other two. The first 5 games, however, require an emulator (since they were published on PC-98), so they probably work on all platforms.
*Note: I don't use compatibility mode to launch the games, so they -should- work fine on versions of Windows XP (service pack 3) and later. Never hurts to try though.

>Second, what website did you get the games on? It may be that the source you took your files from doesn't/didn't have working versions of the game. Mine come (or mostly come, at least EoSD and PCB do) from Moriya Shrine, so if the files themselves are the problem, re-downloading them should solve it.

>Finally, it could be the unzipping software you're using to uncompress the files (assuming you got them compressed) that doesn't do so properly. On the off-chance it is the case, I suggest 7-zip, which is free and also the software I used.

If none of the above solutions work, I currently have no idea what the problem may be, so I'll keep thinking a bit on my side. Please let us know if you manage to solve the problem!

Arctic Wolf (SS82) : Thanks so much! Nothing has worked yet but I hope I'll be able to get it. I also need to mention this thread isn't just for me asking questions and everyone else answering or the other way around.. People can ask questions and others can answer. Also, this is for everything Touhou, which means if you have problems fighting a boss or something, feel free to ask!
