zTachikoma : Hardcore punk is a style of punk. Not metal. It is nice to see people like that style, though. Most people never really pay attention to hardcore punk outside of the variants of it such as metalcore.

I love me some industrial metal. Ever heard of Godflesh? If you haven't, check them out. They are actually a band that started out as a side project for a few of the members of the grindcore/death metal band Napalm Death. Napalm Death is quite good, too. Godflesh started out as an experimental industrial band, but they became an industrial metal band after they gave up on the experimental industrial music. Either way, they do both styles well. The music is pretty slow paced, but that's really what industrial metal tends to be. If you like black metal with industrial metal, check out some of these bands:

Helheim(start out with the Fenris album. It's a black metal fan favorite, actually. Just not the most popularly known of fan favorites)
Dominion III

Also, since you like thrash metal, you might like Tankard and Overkill. Both are amazing bands.

I'll listen to just about any style of metal, personally. I have the obvious favorites like Iron Maiden in my CD collection, and have Metallica's Death Magnetic CD. I don't like Metallica, though. They just bore me. This is mostly due to the fact that I prefer my thrash metal to be faster paced, or slow and somber. If it is just slow and solo filled... No thanks.

I'm currently still really into death metal right now. May as well mention the bands I like of that genre.

Gorguts(some of the best death metal you can find, especially if you have their Considered Dead CD.)
Death(bet ya saw that one coming)
Bolt Thrower(If they can outdo ACDC when it comes to never changing much, you know that's a good sign)
Mortification's Scrolls of the Megilloth CD(death metal classic. Get it if you like death metal. Don't even care that you just bought a Christian CD. It's some of the best death metal to come from a Christian band, and it's a masterpiece from the first song to the last. Don't bother dabbling in much of Mortification's later stuff, though. The older stuff was better, and I am not kidding.)
At the Gates(I love Swedish death metal. Sue me)
Hate Eternal(I did try avoiding them due to some cyber bully issues that involved me liking them, but Hate Eternal is better off being loved.)
Cerebral Bore(Think Arch Enemy is terrible, and don't believe females can be awesome death metal vocalists? Look this band up on Youtube if you want to be proven wrong!)
Abborence(The music is badly produced as far as the production value goes, but the music is still great)
Suffocation(Only have their early demo on my computer, sadly... Great stuff, though)
Broken Hope(The vocals are so low, yet you aren't bombarded with pig sounds. Approved.)
!T.O.O.H!(Czech death metal at its best)
Immortal's demos(those were, oddly enough, death metal)
Morbid(like Mayhem's fan favorite vocalist Dead? He started out in this band. It's a pretty good one, too.)
Old Funeral(This band is where most of the famous black metal musicians started out. It's just good ol' fun death metal from them here.)

KlawedFlaw : Yes I know hardcore punk isn't metal, but it is big in the metal scene, so I listed it. Never heard of Godflesh, probably because I haven't listen to much industrial metal, but I will check them out. I was never crazy about industrial metal probably because I never really found anyone who really did it close to real industrial, except for Nine Inch Nails (industrial rock) and Static-X (industrial metal). One of the thrash metal bands I just got into recently was Outrage, but I've always loved listening to Death Angel. Also if you want to hear some beautiful melodic death metal, check out In Flames, absolutely amazing stuff.

geeogree : They actually grew beyond that. Have you heard their song "Circle?" It is not metal, but that is a beautiful song.

I like various types of metal, though I have found over the years that I care less and less for the screamy death metal sound... I like the music itself more. I tend mostly towards Symphonic metal as a result.

Bands I really like:
Metallica, Scorpions, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Korn, System of a Down, Static X, Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Rhapsody of Fire, Black Sabbath, Abney Park, Apocalyptica, Andrew W.K., Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Godhead, In Flames, Kamelot, Sirenia, Epica, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Liquid Tension Experiment, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Rammstein, Pantera, Evanescense, Nine Inch Nails, Type O Negative, Zeromancer, Adema, Van Canto, Guns n Roses, Slipknot, Papa Roach (some), Dio, Ministry (some), Earshot, Jane's Addiction, Nirvana, Bad Religion, Freedom Call, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blue Öyster Cult, Jethro Tull, Iron Butterfly, Queen, Rush, Alice in Chains, Chevelle, Drowning Pool, Godsmack, White Zombie, Rob Zombie, Powerman 5000, Rage Against the Machine, Stained, Soundgarden, Green Day, Three Day's Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Coal Chamber, Sonata Artica.... and I am sure there are others but I think you get the idea.

Unfortunately besides specific songs, metal is the one of a very few genres I prefer to not listen to as much. It hurts my head more than techno/dance/trance more for some reason. I do listen to specific songs though by various bands ranging from oldies stuff, to newer stuff.

Classic metal is my favourite kind. Bands like Judas Priest, Megadeth, Saxon and the like. Only types I don't like are bands that having screaming or growling vocalists. Just ruins everything else for me.

And don't get me started on Metallica, I could rant for days.
