As far as I know, Brutal Mario has not been updated in a very, very long time. The author (Carol) has not been seen since roughly November 2012. There was also an incident a couple months back where some guy impersonated Carol, got on his SMW Central account and showed off fake Brutal Mario screenshots, which ultimately resulted in Carol's account getting disabled on that site (his last few posts are all deleted because they were by an impersonator).

Where exactly did your friend see this new version of Brutal Mario? The only believable source would be Carol's personal website.
