The way shiny works is... (in ultra violet) you step on a shiny tile and the next poke you see will be shiny. This works for opponents aswell... and the old man i guess lol. As long as its the next poke in the opponent list... It also works on given pokes, so get a shiny eevee or lapras or hitmonchan/lee... fyi
